Battery drops & charger overheats?

Hello all,
I just bougth this laptop (PREDATOR PH317-51) for 3 days and my battery drops 1% every 2 min (not plugged in) although I switch the battery saver mode on, put the brightness to the lowest - I don't do any heavy task either; just normal browsing, etc.
Today I also have just noticed that the charger overheated (trust me, you can make a pancake on it) and this started after I installed ThrottleStop.
Do I need to get the battery replaced or is there something else I can do to fix this?
Please advise
Thank you very much in advance!

Hi,
Try a battery reset, switch off the laptop, disconnect from mains(remove AC adapter), follow the instructions in the video, once completed leave the laptop to rest for 15-20 Mins before starting again.

Hi,
No problem, it could be a faulty charger( manufacturing fault), if the battery reset doesn't help you may have to get in touch with Acer support and explain the problem, they may send you a replacement charger.
BTW, I forgot to mention to reinstall Microsoft ACPI- Compliant control Method Battery driver as well in Device manager. Uninstall the driver, reboot and let Windows install the driver.

Hi Brummyfan2,
Thank you for responding.
I will update you ASAP
About the overheated charger, do you think it's caused by the battery or throttlestop?
it was just a bit hot before I installed & configured TS.
I'm not sure if I want to uninstall TS as it significantly decrease my laptop temperature.

I have done everything but the battery still drains very fast (22% in less than an hour and it's on the max battery saver mode)
is it normal?
I will update on the charger as soon as I can
anyhow, thank you0 -
Hi brummyfan2,
Just want to update you on this:
1. The charger doesn't overheat anymore.
2. Max Temp. 75 - 76c under heavy load - auto fan & cool boost mode ON (ThrottleStop is definitely the best for this laptop)
Battery is a bit better but still disappointing overall
I need a suggestion though; should I remove the battery instead (for longer battery life?) as I don't really move around much with it?0 -
oh and one more thing, do you think I should repaste the CPU & GPU for better temp. and performance?
if so, how lower would I get by doing it?

Hi,
Please follow the instructions for manually calibrating the battery in the link below, monitor the performance after few cycles, as for the temps, 70-75C under load is not bad at all, so you don't need repasting, if it goes to 85-90 then you need to consider repasting.

Before having ThrottleStop configured, the temps. even reached to 97c on gaming
Thanks for the link, will do it ASAP
Have a great day, brummyfan2!0 -
