I have an Acer Aspire 5532 with a black screen and only the cursor showing. I'v'e tried to bring up Task manager to no avail. Before this happeded, I tried to updated to Windows 10 and to run antivirus software to get rid of any problems but no luck there.  Now this black screen. I tried the sticky keys button but the only option it gives is yes or no to turn them on.  Everything I have read seams to reset the entire computer.  Is there a way to get rid of this black screen without deleting all of my files?

Does it allow you to boot to safe mode?

CTRL>Shift>ESC does not bring up the task manager?

    Hi Jacqtaylor,

Try to perform ctrl+alt+del, it will provide you options. On the right hand bottom corner of the screen you will see power icon. click on it, keep holding the shift key and select restart. you will be guided to the advance options. follow the below instructions and try to boot the computer into safe mode.

Now click on the Troubleshoot button and then the Advanced options button. You will now be at the Advanced options screen where you should click on the Startup settings option.

At the Startup Settings screen, click on the Restart button. Your computer will be restarted and brought into the Startup Settings menu.  Select safe mode and boot the computer .

Perform the following steps to do clean boot and then check the status of the computer.
    • If the computer working fine in any advanced options. Perform clean boot.
    • Do a divide and divide and conquer method identify whether the issue is caused because of  a Service/ Start-up
    • Restart the computer and confirm which is causing the issue
    • Clear the temp,prefetch,cookies,%temp%
    • Run disk cleanup .
    • Restart the computer and check the status

You could try clicking ctrl+shift+del in the same time which will result in blue screen that contain many selections you just need to go to task manager and then add new task from the first menu and write explorer.exe and then press enter and I wish that it will work.
