It appears the E5-521 will support 16 GB. Remove the large door with 2 screws on the bottom and the memory is there.

OK just checked and saw I was looking at an E1. Yours looks like you have to practically disassemble the whole laptop to get to the memory. You have to go in from the keyboard side and remove the motherboard because the memory is on the other (bottom) side.

couldn't i just remove all the screws on the bottom and remove the bottom cover instead of going through the keyboard??

I was just researching the same topic as I bought a memory upgrade for my Acer E15 E5-521. I thought this would be as simple as an access door however it looks like I need to disassemble the entire machine. This is a practical joke right? Surely there is a better way to do this?

    Hi,
Yes, it's the only way to upgrade your memory, normally, entry level laptops have these restrictions, it's due to manufacturing process, I guess.

Actually I have had Dell's, HP's and another Acer which were at the same price point which did not require this level of teardown to upgrade the memory. I have already performed the upgrade without issue however I will put RAM access on my checklist the next time I am shopping for a laptop.
