GeForce GTX 970 uses GM204 core, memory 4GB, video bit width 256bit. GTX 970 can basically kill all games, regardless of online games or stand-alone. What is your processor model, I5-level processor with GTX 960 is better, I7-level processor with GTX 970 is better.

Motherboard is least problematic here. More importantly what is the wattage of your PSU?
Always post the following characterisitcs of the device:
    -Model number
    -Part number(not required, but helpful)
    -CPU
    -GPU
    -Operating system

Helios 300 and Nitro 5 users DO NOT update the BIOS to version 1.22 if you don't want the keyboard's backlight to turn off after 30 seconds even when the device is plugged in.

I think your computer (mainboard) is too old to run that card.  I wouldn't invest any more money in to it.  Sounds like it's time for a new computer.  :)

Most newer graphics cards like that need UEFI, GOP, ME 8  firmware (or higher) and adequate power supply.  I don't think your computer has any of those 4 things.
    I'm not an Acer employee.
