Hi there!
I have an Acer Aspire e 15 e5 574 39CL model laptop and since I'm stuck with an intel hd graphics 520, id like to see if it's compatible with an egpu not through a TB3 port (which I don't have)but by removing the WiFi adapter card, so is it compatible with my laptop?

If your wifi card is connected to pci-e x2 or pcie x1 it is not worth buying an external GPU as the performance output you will get is less than 50%. It is possible, but I recommend you to do so if the pcie port, where the wifi card is connected, should be x4 gen 3 or at least x2 gen3(performamce will be 30% less). Anything less than that is not worth it and I don't recommend it.
Always post the following characterisitcs of the device:
    -Model number
    -Part number(not required, but helpful)
    -CPU
    -GPU
    -Operating system

Helios 300 and Nitro 5 users DO NOT update the BIOS to version 1.22 if you don't want the keyboard's backlight to turn off after 30 seconds even when the device is plugged in.

You can use HWiNFO to find out.

Go to device manager and look for your wireless card under network adapters(screenshot 1). Then double click it and under the 'general' tab find what bus it is connected to(Screenshot 2). After that you will have to find this bus in HWiNFO. It is under 'Bus' section.(Screenshot 3).

There is no other way to connect egpu that I know of, except with thunderbolt 3, but you said it is not an option for you.

So the more powerful the egpu ,the more performance you get even though you have a pcie 1x right?

Yes, but x1 is far from enough. I am not actually sure that a GPU like GTX 1050 would work at all. What generation is your pcie x1 port, on which the wireless card is connected.

It is on the same place where you check the amount on lanes on the port. Look for the speed, it is displayed in GT/s.

It is gen 1.0(1.1). No point going for external GPU. You can spend these money to build a PC instead.

How much performance(%) do u think it will it give if i use an egpu in it (gtx 750 ti) ?

I can give an estimate. One pcie lane gen 3.0 is almost 1GB/s. 4x gen 3.0 will be 4GB/s(3.96GB/s) and a GPU on it will work at 95% of total performance. PCIe 1.1 lane's real value is 2.0GT/s, which is equivalent to 250MB/s or 0.25GB/s. On 3.0 x4 port(4gb/s) with 5% performance loss and 1x port gen 1.1 has 16 times less the speed of x4 gen 3. The performance you will get out of it is minimal(more than 80% loss) , with a very very high chance( that you won't even get any video output at all.

I haven't seen or heard anyone connecting a GPU, which is recommended to work on at least 8lanes, to a port with less than 4 lanes. There are GPUs that are designed to work on x2 or x1 ports.

Which types of gpus are designed to work in pcie 1x ports and is there a way to upgrade or replace these port gens to a newer gen or the ports itself to a 2x or 4x pcie?

You can do some research and find out which gpus are for x1 port.

There is no way to upgrade the port to a newer version or add more lanes to it.
