Hi Acer community,

I've just bought an Acer ES1-432, and want to install Windows 7 on it. However, whenever I try to boot from a disk or a USB that I made bootable through Rufus, it hangs on the Windows startup screen.

I've found this thread: http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1952189/windows-install-disc-freezes-starting-windows.html that recommends settings a "Launch CSM" option. However, after having updated the BIOS to the newest version (found here: https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/support-product/6976), it still only has an option to disable Secure Boot, which I have always kept on "Disabled".

What can I do here? I think I need to get a BIOS with an option to change "Launch CSM" or something that I can set the boot to "Legacy", because all I can do is disable and enable Secure Boot. It does boot from the disk/usb, but it doesn't go past the "Starting Windows" screen. All I need to do is install Windows 7, but it hangs.

Please help!

Thanks in advance!

Edit: I have done everything in this video (and I also updated the BIOS) up to the point where I select to boot on the USB, and it hangs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GmVhjkFMDNs Should I get that thing he has on his USB to run a custom boot?

legacy/LaunchCSM option is not available on your model and windows 7 need to be installed under UEFI (and it doesn't support a pure UEFI enviroment) but, as far as i know, is missing chipset support.

you can google some discussion about installing windows 7 on skylake or kabylake, trying to slipstream some Intel chipset, USB and AHCI drivers.

others have tried but no one reported a success until now, good luck.

So you're saying that I shouldn't try installing Windows 7 on my laptop (because it won't ever work?)? What if I do a clean install of the existing Windows on it (using media creation tool)?

By the way, it's a N3350 Celeron laptop.

    Thanks in advance!

about not trying, if you enjoy (like me) testing/customise your laptop...why not?

but can be a dead way.

you can do a clean installation if you want to get rid of Acer software or you can try a fresh install too (if apply to your system)

But will it be able to run a fresh install from a disk/USB, seeing as it doesn't work with the Windows 7 ones?

    Thanks in advance!

if you mean windows 10, yes.

    follow these steps:

    1) download a windows 10 iso using Microsof tool:
    http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=691209
select the proper windows 10 version (the same installed on your laptop) and choose to save it as iso file when prompted
    2) download Rufus:
    http://rufus.akeo.ie/?locale=en_US
plug your USB flash drive, run Rufus then:
select ISO image from the dropdown menu near "Create a bootable disk"
click on the little icon on the right and browse to the windows 10 downloaded iso file
as Partitions scheme select "GPT partition scheme for UEFI"
    as File system select "FAT32"
    click on Start
wait until it finish, then uplug your USB flash drive
    3) backup all your personal data
    4) Reboot to BIOS, pressing F2 at boot, then press F9 to load default and F10 to save and exit
    5) plug your USB flash drive and at boot press F12 (if F12 doesn't work, see if it auto-recognise the USB flash drive or press F2 to enter BIOS and enable F12 boot menu under BOOT or MAIN tab), choose the USB flash drive as bootable device
