Nephew's computer:
Acer Aspire 5742Z-4601

SNID ******************

S/N LXR4P02001*****************

Mfg date 1008

Originally running win 7 - unknown as to which win 7 as the COA sticker is totally unreadable

Computer was upgraded to windows 10 under the free offer.
Apparently the computer has major issues with 10 that they have never been able to resolve.

He wants to go back to win 7 but did not get any discs with the computer.

My thought was to get recovery disks from acer but they are no longer available.

Any suggestions?

Ron

Open an elevated command prompt in windows 10 and type this command to find the OEM product key

    wmic path softwarelicensingservice get OA3xOriginalProductKey

I have Windows 7 ISO. However i integrated them with the April 2015 servicing stack update and Convenience Rollup using Command prompt and Microsoft Windows AIK.

    wmic path softwarelicensingservice get OA3xOriginalProductKey

    This returns Invalid Query

Using ShowKeyPlus, I retrieved a win 10 product key but it will not activate windows 7 installation

Also pulled a win 7 product key but when entered, it says this is a default key that cannot be used to activate windows 7.

If only I could read the faded coa sticker!

The 'O' next to the OA3xOriginal is an an 'O' not a zero

Ran it both ways - same result invalid query

Danged faded coa stickers causes major issues plus Acer not having recovery disks!

Did run ProduKey and get a product key but win 7 installation will not accept it. Says it is a default key

Looks like he is going to have to buy a retail win 7 IF he can find one reasonably priced!

There must be a way to extract the key from the BIOS

Try NeoSmart OEM product key tool

If this does not work, you could buy a product key from eBay. I had bought a product key of Windows 10 pro for around the price of $2
