again, the serial number you get from the software is the product key you have:

    1) embedded on BIOS (Home version)

    2) Home version - normally this is a generic windows 10 product key, it's the same for all the PC

    2) the one you put in (PRO version)

authentication is automatic, once you do the first internet connection, and an hardware key is stored to Microsoft server, so you don't need to enter the product key each time you re-install windows 10.

if you need to change from Home to Pro, you just need to enter the Pro product key and this will switch the version and send a new hardware key to Microsoft:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12384/windows-10-upgrading-home-to-pro

if you need to re-do a clean install, you have 3 options:

    1) skip the product key step during installation and let windows manage your authentication

    2) enter your Pro product key when requested

    3) windows will not ask for a product key and you will need to switch your license from Home to Pro

    UEFI must used

you can check if your windows 10 is activated:

    press windows logo key

    type

    activation

    click on Activation

serial on new computers is embedded on BIOS/CMOS, so no serial stickers.

since it will be read during windows installation or first internet connection byt the system.

So it means all releases of acer would be like that?

Also about the recovery, is it really effective?

What if another copy of windows is installed which is windows 10 pro and not the windows 10 home,so the serial embedded on bios/cmos will be gone?

all the releases of all the world computer manufacturers.

recovery is effective and you can also download a windows OS vanilla version from Microsoft servers:

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

or create your own USB recovery with all the pre-isntalled Acer softwares/drivers.

you can switch serial whenever you want (from home to pro) and your embedded serial will be always available to install on your laptop; Microsoft stores a digital key related to your machine hardware; so the serial is not lost.

How will I retrieve the embedded serial?

I contact acer philippines and they told me theres no serial for my machine.

They only told me that iy was built in my laptop .

Can I still retrieve it even though I use other serials to activate my windows 10 pro from windows home 10?

sorry, can you explain it better, i didn't understand?

if you mean the serials on the website...it's just a screenshot/picture, nothing related to your laptop.

    the direct link is:

    unzip and run the software

I was able to download and open the file.

I saw 3 serials, one from windows 10 home, one from windows pro and one from the bios

But none of them work when i try to activate it through the setting.

This is the error I've got: 0xc004f074 can't connect to organization

The OEM serial on bios doesn't work too

And everytime I try to use the activation via phone slui 4 the system only tells CAN'T ACTIVATE WINDOWS BY PHONE

by the way I am not also sure about the format I've made

there are two options the legacy and uefi

    I choose UEFI

What's the difference between the two?is that caused of the activation?

Your response is only for the serial number of the laptop.

My question here is how to retrieve windows os serial number.

And since acer told me that it was built in how can I actually manage to activate it.?

Do I need to send this to acer or theres a way for me to activate it since I reformat it with different version of windows 10.

Actually this is what happened 3 days after I bought the unit it becomes so slow.

So since I have a copy of windows pro iso that I got from microsoft I quickly format my unit.

And since I don't make any back up I had trouble with the activation of my windows os.

My friend help me with this and he used a third party software to activate my unit.

Now since you told me about the automatic activation I try to bring back my unit from windows 10 pro to windows 10 home.

And I skipped the serial activation and after I do the clean installation, no automatic activation happened on my unit.

Do I need to make a format again and wait for the activation for few more days?

I don't have a product key of windows pro, its only a legit iso.

wipe your HDD/SSD, do a clean windows home installation and check if it authenticate or not.

if not, try again phone activation and if it fails, check if you can wait someone from Microsoft.

using a third party software to activate windows is the worst thing to do in a laptop with OEM license, hope they didn't black list your hardware.

    I feel worried about it.

I blame my friend on what happened on my unit because he told me that everything gonna be alright.

I don't really know that is the consequence of using a third party software.

I am really hoping that everything will be ok after I format it again to windows 10 home.

By the way in windows 10 home , any versions may do right?

Thank you so much if this things will not work my last resort would be to purchase a legit copy from microsoft store

follow these steps to have a proper windows 10 installation media

    1) download a windows 10 iso using Microsof tool:
    http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=691209
select the proper windows 10 version (the same installed on your laptop)...in your case choose manually (Pro and Home are in the same ISO in the latest releases) and choose to save it as iso file when prompted
    2) download Rufus:
    http://rufus.akeo.ie/?locale=en_US
plug your USB flash drive, run Rufus then:
select ISO image from the dropdown menu near "Create a bootable disk"
click on the little icon on the right and browse to the windows 10 downloaded iso file
as Partitions scheme select "GPT partition scheme for UEFI"
    as File system select "FAT32"
    click on Start
wait until it finish, then uplug your USB flash drive
    3) backup all your personal data
    4) Reboot to BIOS, pressing F2 at boot, then press F9 to load default and F10 to save and exit
    5) plug your USB flash drive and at boot press F12 (if F12 doesn't work, see if it auto-recognise the USB flash drive or press F2 to enter BIOS and enable F12 boot menu under BOOT tab), choose the USB flash drive as bootable device

By the way who will black list my hardware is it mirosoft or the acer?

I remember I called acer and told what really happened?so they can simply blacklist my unit since they know my serials?

not Acer but Microsoft can block some product key, it's a really remote possibility but it happened.

Maybe a bit late but for Windows serial number simply enter "wmic os get serialnumber" without the quotes at the command prompt. Jack E/NJ
