Can't activate windows after using factory reset software

I have an acer aspire S7-392.

Due to a potentially failing hard disk I have tried a facory reset (I know this will not resolve the hard disk issue). After the reset windows is not activated.

The reset is on 8. I had already updated to 10. Acer support say it is not possible to reset to 8 only 8.1. I would have expected the reset to automatically embed the key but this is not the case either. The sticker fell off the bottom long ago.

Any ideas? Thanks.

I found a solution which may help anyone else who has a similar problem.

Because I had already upgraded to windows 10 before performing the factory reset I was able to create a windows 10 boot USB stick and install a fresh copy. This effectively bypassed the acer boot partition which is effectively now redundant.

If you want to create a windows 10 boot usb follow this link https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10 then click on the 'download tool now' button and then follow the instuctions. You will need a USB stick of at least 4GB (8 would be better) and it will wipe all the files from your usb stick.

try to activate via phone call:

press windows logo key + r

    type

    slui 4

    then follow onscreen instructions.

product key is normally BIOS embedded, check if you are able to retrieve it:

    I'm not an Acer employee.
