PXE Boot Lockup/stalls

Trying to PXE Boot a new TravelMate P259-M from the deployment server to build onto the network.  However, each time the laptop boots the PXE boot will lockup just after the MAC address is displayed  - the GUID is not displayed and there is no attempt to obrian an IP address or connect to the server.  BIOS has been updated to latest version, boot set to legacy and trusted platfrom set to disabled.  If you remove the network cable the laptop will boot normally and show the no media connected message which is a pain as teh automated build will reboot the laptops at least5 or 6 times during the build.

How do you know it won't try to optain IP address? Did you run tcpdump / wireshark to double check?

    Is your network cable okay?

And btw, if you're trying to hide parts of your MAC address, hide the lower bits. At least the 3 rightmost digits. The leftmost bits are vendor specific, all similar laptops will have the same prefix.

The normal process is the MAC address will be displayed and the GUID on the same line - the GUID is never shown. The next line/step is the process when the laptop will attempt to detect a PXE boot server and obtain an IP address - this never happens. If the cable is disconnected, the MAC and GUID is displayed and the normal message of media cable test failed. With a working laptop, the MAC and GUID is shown on the same line, and then the process of obtaining an IP and the option to network boot.

Not a cable or network fault - exactly the same switch and cable has been used to build a number of other laptops the same way without any issues

FYI - the photo was provided by the customer - we just posted it as we received it.

If you're really sure that the network cable and connectors etc. are fine (e.g. boot from usb, see what happens there) and tcpdump/wireshark show nothing, then it's a BIOS bug. I never came across such an issue before.

I assume you tried resetting bios settings and double checked them too?

Also try booting with UEFI enabled. It's still possible to install linux, even if secure boot enabled (grub signed...).

Got 15 laptops, all brand new out of the box and a couple are showing this error. All of them have the BIOS configured in the same way (legacy mode, PXE first boot device etc) and the others have all booted and connected first time with no issues
