Hi,

I was initially having some trouble connecting to a home Wifi, the trouble being that it was a poor signal, but the computer had recognised and been connected to the same Wifi, and been able to detect the Wifi signals of the surrounding houses as other potential options.

After a certain point, my laptop stopped actually presenting wireless connections as a method of connecting at all and it is detecting no Wifi options. If I open the Connect-to-a-Network bar, it only suggests Ethernet Connections and VPN.

Would anyone be able to help me get it to detect Wifi again?

Thanks

    Hi

    If no networks are available to choose from, this suggests that the WiFi is disconnected.  Either by a software problem or hardware (in that it has failed) problem.

    The flow chart above may help you clarify the area of concern. Or it may just help us along the journey of eliminating stuff.

    Typing (at a command prompt) getmac returns for me...

    48-E2-44-54-66-27   \Device\Tcpip_{FAAAAAAA-1613-4F0A-9BBF-444444444499}
    B0-5A-DA-DE-84-28   Media disconnected
    48-E2-44-54-66-28   Media disconnected

    show 3 devices, 1 is my WiFi the other two would be ethernet and bluetooth.

    ########################################

    Physical Address    Transport Name
    =================== ==========================================================
    48-E2-44-54-66-27   \Device\Tcpip_{FAAAAAAA-1613-4F0A-9BBF-444444444499}
    B0-5A-DA-DE-84-28   \Device\Tcpip_{FAAAAAAA-1613-4F0A-9BBF-444444444495}
    48-E2-44-54-66-28   Media disconnected

    With my ethernet plugged in I got the above, so now I can work out which is my BlueTooth.

    Additional things you could type

    ipconfig -all    and get a lot of info which could be pasted in here for analysis.

    So please try something and report back.

    High doughjon, thanks for the response.

    On the flowchart I've got Wireless/No/No then I'm stuck to proceed as unfortunately I don't have access to an Ethernet adapter at the minute so I tried to eliminate the options by turning the Bluetooth from on to off (if that helps).

    Bluetooth on, getmac

    F8-A9-63-9C-D5-47 Media disconnected

    N/A Hardware not present

    18-CF-5E-0E-56-3C Media disconnected

    Bluetooth off, getmac

    F8-A9-63-9C-D5-47 Media disconnected

    N/A Hardware not present

    ipconfig -all

    Windows IP configuration

    Host Name: Shem

    Primary DNS Suffix:

    Node Type: Hybrid

    IP Routing Enabled: No

    WINS Proxy Enabled: No

    Ethernet adapter Ethernet:

    Media State: Media Disconnected

    Connection Specific DNS Suffix: WDS01.COM

    Description: Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller

    Physical Address: F8-A9-63-9C-D5-47

    DHCP Enabled: Yes

    Autoconfiguration Enabled: Yes

    From this I'm assuming the F8-... is the Ethernet, the 18-... is the bluetooth and the N/A is the wifi?
