I dropped my laptop and the screen has a black patch and it takes so long to log in now. Can anyone suggest a fix. Haven't actually logged back in since it happened.

Be patient. Disk areas with data/programs likely have been damaged. Windows is trying to recover & move them to undamaged areas. Takes a while. May not be fully successful but hopefully enough to get back up & running. Once that happens, we can check the video card to see if it's OK then address the screen black patch issue. Press & hold the power button for 5 seconds to make sure all power is off. Then press & release the power button one time to turn the machine back on. Try to log in.

If successful, right click the start button and open file Explorer. Click on computer. Right click on the C:\ drive and choose properties. Click on tools. Then check drive for errors and let it fix any found. This may take a while.

After error checking is complete, shut down. Then re-boot to see if the log in is faster. The screen is another issue we'll tackle next depending on the log in results.

Thanks I tried what you suggested and I eventually got to the sign in screen after about 20 mins. I entered my password and clicked the sign in icon to no avail so I hit enter. It was attempting to log me in (spinning wheel) but it just did not eventuate.  After about an hour I got fed up and shut it down using the power button.  The shutdown icon on the touchscreen is where the screen damage is (black patch).  I then attempted to do a system refresh Alt + F10 but when I selected refresh it came back with a cannot refresh message and advised to use advanced options.  I then attempted a restore to the last restore point and I got the error Windows has detected file system corruption on Acer C. You must check the disk for errors before it can be restored.  I selected the check disk for errors option and have now been scanning and repairing for about 4 hours.  It is about 98% complete and has been like that for about 3.45 hours.  Not sure if it will finish if I just leave it or whether I am wasting my time.  Should I just be patient or is it stuffed?
