Put a new battery in my ACER Aspire but it shows "battery not detected". Any suggestions?

I have an Acer Aspire 7740 with Windows 7.    Even though it says "battery not detected"  it is charging the battery because I can use it with the battery only.  The "battery not detected" is the only message I get in the bottom right tray with the battery symbol with a red "x" in it.

Was this "new battery" obtained from Acer or a third party?

Please note that we will only be able to assist with an Acer battery.

Third party hardware would need to be addressed through the respective manufacturer.

I bought my Acer Aspire 7740 from my local Staples and they ordered the replacement battery for me since the ACER website did not show a battery number for my Acer Aspire 7740. The battery is identical to the original battery that came with my Acer when purchased.  Labels, battery# are all identical. The packing listwith the replacement battery shows from AVNET Integrated in Simi Valley, CA. It shows the battery as BT.00603.042/NP and ACER 6-cell LI-ION battery  BCN:10007863

The label on the battery also shows "cell made in China and packed for Acer, Inc.
