hi just wondering has anyone used the recovery discs come with w700?

i boot in to the system dvd recovery manager, i was going to completely restore(option 2) the system but the program says you have to delete all the data to continue, how the heck am i suppose to do that in the recovery manager? so i can only use option one which restore c: drive only, after insert the 2 recovery discs the process went 100% and then an error message about can't find the path blah blah

anyone has any ideas? thanks

I went to do a system restore on my acer w700 the other day and I was surprised that it asked me for a dvd when I tried to do the restore,I rememebr thinking this tablet doesn't have a dvd drive so why is it asking me for a dvd, then after reading the uder manual I seen how I need a usb dvd drive to be able to do the restore.

I have only had my w700 for about a week but before i owned the w700 i owned a 64gb microsoft surface rt,and while in my opinion i thought the surface was a real piece of junk compared to my w700,one thing i liked about the microsoft surface tablet was that when i went to do a factory restore on the surface it didn't ask me for a dvd,it had everything it needed alreay on the tablet to do the restore.

So it makes me wonder,if microsoft can do a factory restore without a dvd then why can't acer do the same,i am aware that the surface runs the rt version of windows 8 and the w700 runs the full windows 8,but the windows rt version is still 12gb in size, and it doesn't ask you for a dvd to do a restore.

I guess i am just a bit annoyed that i have to go out and purchase a usb dvd drive.

I have an LG GP30 that works well with my netbooks and the W510 tablet. I also use a powered hub (has a 2A 5v PS) since the W510 usb power seems marginal. Both should be available through Amazon for under U$50.

BTW it does not have to be a DVD, can put everything on a bootable flash drive or even a bootable microSD card. Personally I would not want to waste 4 GB+ when I can put on cheap media (have seen 8 GBflash drives for under U$5.

i can't remember the order, but i did put in a language disc in once. and maybe system disc in twice .

the order something like this .

    1. system dvd

    2. recovery dvd disc 1 of 2

    3. recovery dvd disc 2 of 2

    4. can't remember it was system dvd again or recovery dvd language pack disc (either or)

    sorry about bad memory...

i also try to do 2nd option but got the same message you got. are we suppose to delete the whole c: drive and boot back with system dvd or something.

I just used a windows 8 dvd to delete the partitions and recreate them. (You need a USB DVD drive)

     a. start the windows 8 setup

     b. choose custom install

     c. delete all drive partitions

     d. create new drive partitions (there should now be 4)

     e. format largest partition

     f. exit the windows setup.

     g. boot with the recovery DVD.

    To boot with a DVD:

    1. You need a USB DVD drive.

    2. Make sure BIOS is in UEFI mode.

    3. Move the USB DVD drive up as first boot device (you may have to reboot into BIOS a second time to change this)

    4. Turn off FAST boot in BIOS

    5. Insert DVD into drive.

    6. Hold w700 power button down for 6 seconds

    7. Power ON.
