I recently changed the memory (4gb)ram ddr2-pc2-6400 (800 mhz) but it only shows 333 mhz

 DDR2
Memory Size6 GBytes
ChannelsDual, (Ganged)
Memory Frequency333.4 MHz (3:5)

I have another 4gb ddr2-pc2-6400 (800 mhz)on the way via usps.i appreciate you guy's time.

    Hi,

What is the speed of the 2GB memory? I think when you mix different speed memory, they will work at the lowest speed of the two.

When you install the other 4GB 800MHz RAM, you will get the speed you expect.

Hi brummyface this cpu-z is what i got after installing 8 gb ddr2-pc2-6400 (800 mhz).In the BIOS it shows approx.8gb.I will send you another screenshot shortly.

    Hi,

It shows the correct speed, both modules work in dual channel and you get 2x400MHz maximum speed, my memory is PC3-12800 1600MHz and the maximum speed is 2x800MHz.

Untitled.pngHey brummyfan here is the memory portion of cpu-z.Do you mean that the channel # is half of the dual total ram?cuz i'm a little lost.Yours says 800 mhz but mine does not it says DRAM FREQ.is 399.8 mhz but if you go to freq.jedec #1,2,3,4 it says 266,333,400 mhz.on the SPD max bandwidth is pc2-6400 (400mhz).So if you would be kind enough and explain this to me in layman's terms and perhaps that way i can understand because i installed 4 2gb ram all the same speed 800 mhz so i just don't get it!!

Thanks bro i really appreciate your time on this!!!

    Hi,

I have posted mine as an example, your memory modules are PC2-6400 and 800MHz speed(in dual channel), DRAM Freq 399.8(roughly 400)

Mine is PC3-12800 and 1600MHz (in dual channel), DRAM Freq 798.7(800).

The values you see in SPD tab(266,333,400) are for information purpose provided by the manufacturers of the memory modules, they test the RAM at different timings.

Go to task manager, click Performance tab, click Memory in the right pane and read the actual speed of the memory at the bottom right.

Untitled.pngOk brummy here is a screenshot of my task manager and the speed is 400mhz but it shows top right corner has 8gb.why does'nt my pc show 800mhz as the speed on bottom right corner?

    Hi,

Could you please take out a module and get the reading from CPU-z and Task Manager, do the same to the other module as well and post the results.

6gbUntitled.pngHi Brummyfan i removed one stick of ram from the 1st slot(blue)the frequency is the same,I'll send more screenshots..

    back to 8gb.png

ok brummyfan this is the reading going back up to 8gb.

You asked me to give you info from one of the modules:

    2gb pc2-6400-666-12-eo,2gb,ddr2,800mhz,cl6.

when i go into bios i see in advanced chipset settings i see speed:2300mhz,ht3 clock:1800mhz and what i'm interested in is the following it says:Able to change frequency:yes.Does this have anything to do with the ram or is it for the cpu?

    thanks,

    Hi,

How have you installed the memory sticks?

Is it 2 sticks of 2GB + 1 stick of 4GB? I am asking because when you remove one stick you end up with 6GB, when you add the stick it becomes 8GB.

    Hi brummyfan,

I have 4 sticks of 2gb each which makes a total of 8 gb.

    Hi,

From the snip above I can see that your memory works at 800MHz speed, as I have mentioned before, it's working at 2x400MHz  but I am unable to explain why it shows as 400MHz in Task managerSmiley Sad Sorry.

EDIT: the clock speeds you mentioned are for the CPU speed, could you please check in BIOS settings for RAM speed multiplier set to Automatic.

Hi Brummyfan i went into the BIOS and there is no setting that says check RAM speed multiplier set to automatic.

The only info about the ram is the amount of memory which comes out to 8gb total.

    Hi,

I have run out of ideas, please wait for someone else to chime in.

Honestly i wouldn't care about Task manager reporting wrong memory speed, CPU-z is way more reliable; there are various discussion on the web about wrong ram speed on task manager (99% is a glitch)

maybe check if you system has a newer BIOS or chipset drivers but i highly doubt this will fix your issue.
