V3-112P - how to upgrade to SSD

Hi,

I have an Acer Aspire V11 Touch, V3-112P-C79V.

The hard drive is an eMMC 32GB, I bought a 250GB to upgrade, but I can't even see a slot for that - the slot itself seems to be missing, the place where the hard drive is supposed to be is just empty.

How am I supposed to deal with that? Do I have to buy the slot separately somewhere? Or is the mother board just not made for it?

Space for & placement/routing of the cable & connectors are likely gonna be the main issues. If you try to go that route, the outer cable sheathing must be removed to reduce bulk and enhance flexibility. You might be able to get away with it if you don't try to get too fancy securing the drive inside. If it was mine, I'd use the SSD externally like I do now on my netbook. Even the 7mm mechanical TB+ drives are now pretty robust and really don't require any special protection outside the case.  Jack E/NJ

Did some research on internet - the "slot" is apparently called a SATA connector. I don't have one. Can I buy that somewhere? How do I know which specs are correct for the connector? Does it need to be soldered or just plugged?

    This is seriously weird.

Your particular V3-112P model with the c79v suffix is differently configured from many others in the V3 series. Accordingly, go to http://www.crucial.com/ and download their upgrade scanner to see what if any SSD upgrades are compatible with your system.  Jack E/NJ

I've scanned my laptop with Crucial and my laptop can indeed be upgraded. It's just that there's no SATA connector on the motherboard. The device is missing - I can see a spot where I can screw it on the motherboard, but it's just not there.

Your c79v system is configured with the integrated eMMC drive-only mainboard option, part no. nb.mrs11.001. It is similar to models popularly known at 'cloud' PCs relying more on internet cloud or external storage than on internal storage. Accordingly, your 250GB drive can certainly be used with it by purchasing a simple usb-to-sata cable for less than $10 with free shipping. Thanks,
I'm thinking about placing the ssd drive inside the laptop, even if I connect it through a usb port. Would that be a problem, for example would the heat it generates be an issue?
