iv seamed to have a similar problem after windows refresh it stated can not be complete due to missing files so I tried restore discs but still stated some files are missing so I placed my own windows 8 disc in to see if I can locate the missing files Smiley Sad with the shook that all programs have been removed and the restore discs no longer work, hopping that if I can down load and download acer back-up manager my problems may go away. Fingers crossed.

I had the exact same problem... what a nightmare.  It took me an entire weekend to finally get the retail version of Windows 8 setup on the machine.  All I know is I had to use Legacy BIOS to do this.  The problem I was having was the display driver.  Once I was able to get that installed (often through blind clicking), it ultimately worked.  But I fear next time I want to do a clean install, it will give me problems again.

Basically, the W700 doesn't like when you mess with the recovery partition (which is BS because I don't want it nor Acer bloatware).

Hey, can you please elaborate a bit more on this? What was the issue that you had with the display driver? I was thinking about doing a clean install as well cause I don't want all these bloatware as well as upgrading to Win 8 Pro.

I wish I could.  All I know is I was doing the install from an external CD drive and after about 30 trys I finally figured out that the reason I was seeing a blank (black) screen was because the display driver wasnt installed.  But honestly, I stumbled upon it working.  Also, as I mentioned, it wouldn't work with UEFI Bios enabled... i had to use legacy BIOS and the Acer Recovery CDs completely ceased to work once I removed the partition.  Horrible experience but now that all the drivers are installed, it purrs like a kitten.

Also, this is something Acer should be addressing on here, not me.  Acer?  Are you there?    (Cue the crickets)

Hi guys I solved the problem bellow are steps to recover form oryginal ACER Recovery disks:

Step 1: Prepare  bootable UEFI media (in my case windows8 PC Smiley Happy)

-start command propt and type diskpart

    fallow this commands:

    list disk

select disk x (where x is USB drive number from list

clean (wipes everything, so be sure!)

    create partition primary

    active

format fs fat32 quick ( FAT32 for UEFI to  boot succeed if you create  NTFS its fail)

    assign

exit (to exit out of Diskpart)

Step2. Mount your Retail windows 8 / 7 iso image and copy all data to UEFI USB Device prepared in step1.

Step3. Prepare script for creating partition for recovery comand prompt.

create rec_part.txt file and paste commands to txt file:

    select disk 0
    clean

    convert gpt
rem == 1. Windows RE tools partition ===============
    create partition primary size=300
format quick fs=ntfs label="Windows RE tools"
    assign letter="T"
    set id="de94bba4-06d1-4d40-a16a-bfd50179d6ac"
    gpt attributes=0x8000000000000001
    rem == 2. System partition =========================
    create partition efi size=100
    format quick fs=fat32 label="System"
    assign letter="S"
rem == 3. Microsoft Reserved (MSR) partition =======
    create partition msr size=128
    rem == 4. Windows partition ========================
rem ==    a. Create the Windows partition ==========
    create partition primary
rem ==    c. Prepare the Windows partition =========
    format quick fs=ntfs label="ACER"
    assign letter="C"
    list volume
    exit

Step 3. Copy rec_part.txt file to  UEFI USB boot device prepared in step1.

Step 4. Boot to ACER w700 bios (start device while holdind windows logo button)

Step 5. Select the Boot option in the left pane.
Step 6. Under "Boot priority order", move  USB HDD  to the number one
    position
Step 7. Select Exit in the left pane and select Exit Saving Changes on the right
    side.
Step 8. Insert UEFI boot USB device

Step 9. After boot to Windows Setup dialog (Part where you chose language) celect next

Step 10. In the next screen select Repair Your Computer (lower left corner of setup dialog)

Step 11. Now you are on command prompt go to drive x where is placed rec_part.txt file (in my case "cd D:")

Step 12. Type command to start diskpart

    diskpart /s D:\rec_part.txt

Script will create necessery partitions and list them on the end of process.

Step 13. Restart W700 and boot from ACER Recovery DVD. (or prepare an UEFI boot USB Device as shown in Step1 and copy all ACER Recovery dvd to it )

After this Recovery manager starts without problems and I was able to recovery my Iconia. I hope it helps to other users for recoery.

    Sorry for my English

               And

To do a full recovery you must first delete everything on the drive (first make sure you are in UEFI mode).

I used a windows 8 dvd to delete and recreate the partitions :

     a. start the windows 8 setup:

     b. choose custom install

     c. delete all drive partitions

     d. create new drive partitions (There should now be 4)

     e. format largest partition

     f. exit the windows setup.

Now insert your recovery DVD and it should let you do a full recovery.
