I'd like to extend the usable life of my laptop by upgrading the RAM (currently 2x2GB 1066 MHz) and CPU (currently T4200).
Crucial recommends 1600 MHz RAM: http://uk.crucial.com/gbr/en/aspire-5738z/CT5304873#productDetails
Kingston recommends 1333 MHz RAM: http://www.kingstonmemoryshop.co.uk/laptop/acer/acer-aspire-5738z-laptop
Can anyone advise what is the maxium CPU and memory the laptop can utilise?

Hello,
Could you give me the first ten characters of the computer serial number (S/N)? Only the first ten.

Yes, thanks. Here are the official specifications of your laptop: Link. The new memory modules will work at 1066MHz.

So in other words, there's no point in buying faster memory than I already have?0

According to the Acer specifications, no.

Okay, thanks anyway. Could you also tell me the maximum supported CPU speed/model? Thanks again.

Hi. I think there might be a mistake because my laptop actually has a 17" screem size while the specification here says 15.6" https://www.acer.com/datasheets/2010/4876/5738Z/LX.PAR0X.077.html
Perhaps my laptop has different specifications from "AS5738Z-424G50Mn"?

Hi,
Your model can be upgraded up to 8GB.

I have an acer aspire 5738Z - 442G32Mn
Serial number: LXPAR02077************
So according to ACER my maximum memory is up to 8gb: https://www.acer.com/datasheets/2010/4876/5738Z/LX.PAR02.077.html
But another website said maximum was 4gb
I am assuming acer is correct and it is 8gb. So, if I buy an 8gb stick and leave the 2gb already in there, will that affect the proper operation of the 8gb? or do I have to take the 2gb out?
I see alot of ddr3l sodimms for sale. Can I use a ddr3l sodimm or does it have to be the same as what is already there (ddr3 sodimm)
Would the ddr3l sodimm make a difference to the performance of the computer compared to the ddr3 sodimm? My computer only has 2gb ram, it freezes, lags and there is always a circle where the cursor is, so it needs all the help it can get.0 -
LXPAT0X116 this is my serial number can pls someone send me the full specs0

Hello,I have an Acer Aspire A515-51G and I want some suggestions before I upgrade my RAM. Can I put another 8 GB of ram means a total of 16 GB? I would like to buy one more from BuyKingston. Will it be fine?0

I believe your model comes with 4GB on the motherboard and a single socket for expansion. You can use up to a 16GB module in there, giving a maximum of 20GB. Match the speed of the onboard memory, it is DDR4 1866 or 2133...
