I need to update my graphics card driver, I have an Intel graphics card. So I tried to download the latests update from the Intel website, but because of how Acer modified my grpahics card, the Intel update refuses to proceed. They told me to contact my manufacturer but my warrenty is expired and Acer refuses to answer my calls. Acer does not have any graphics card updates for my Aspire E5-571. I'd like to get the generic Intel driver rather than this outdated Acer driver. Can anyone help me with that? If you need me to provide any more specifications, just ask and I'll update the post!

What Win & driver versions are installed now? What was the factory-installed versions? What graphics issues are you having with this driver? Jack E/NJ

I have Windows 10 Home 64-bit and it says my processor is Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-5200U CPU @ 2.20GHz. I think this answers what you were asking, but if not, tell me and I'll try again. On Intel's webiste I tried to download Intel® Graphics Driver version 15.40.28.4501 for Windows® 10. I found it at this address https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26228/Graphics-Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-10-and-Windows-7-8-1-15-40-?product=86210

The issues I'm having don't affect normal PC usage, but the PC game I'm playing is newer than the Acer graphics driver, so I'm having problems playing the game. When I contacted the game's support, they told me to upgrate my graphics card, which I cannot do because of the Acer modifications.

Is Win10 factory-installed? Then open Device Mgr. Click on display adapter. Note model. Then right click. The properties to see what driver version is currently installed. Jack E/NJ

The driver version of the Intel Graphics 5550 that is currently installed is 10.18.15.4248. The Driver Date is 2015-08-04. When I clicked update driver and it automatically searched for an update, it said it was the most up to date, which is unfortunate because Intel has a very new update on their website.

Do you have a factory-installed Win10 or was it updated from Win7 or Win8x? Jack E/NJ

Yes, I think Windows 10 was factory installed on here, and I recently updated my OS to the newest version of Winows 10 as well.

Have you tried running intel's driver update utility? http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/detect.html?iid=dc_iduu

I have. It gives me a message like this. Driver.PNG

When I go to the Intel website, it gives me links to contact my computer manufacturer, which is how I got to this website.

These are the two different methods that I use to manually update the graphics driver.  Try Method1 first.  If that doesn't work, then try Method2.

    Method 1:

    http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/graphics-drivers/000005629.html

    or

    Method 2:

Okay thank you so much, I'll definitely try out those methods and get back to you! But are either of them dangerous to the computer? Like could they cause me to lose function? And which driver and am I specficially intalling from Intel? (I don't want to download the wrong one by accident!)

    Dangerous?  No, they aren't dangerous.

Choose Method1.  Don't try both methods unless you have to.

Let me give you some general computer advice.

    1.  Always keep your important personal files backed up.  It doesn't matter what you're doing.  You should keep your important personal files backed up on a daily or weekly basis because you never know when you might get a virus or make a mistake or your HDD might fail without warning.....etc.

    2.  Make sure you create a USB factory default recovery drive.  And then put it in a envelope and label it.....and then put it a safe place like a cabinet drawer.

You can choose the beta driver or the latest non beta driver.  I can't make that decision for you.  I would choose beta.

If you have problems with the driver that you manually install, it's not a big deal, you simply rollback to the previous driver. Or you can delete the driver that you installed.  And then you can let Windows automatically download the driver it wants, or you can go to Acer's website and download your driver.  Sometimes I let Windows automatically download the driver it wants.

Don't worry, Windows has a basic display adapter so it's really hard to mess things up.  Smiley Wink

If you're not real experienced with computers (I assume you're not), you may have to take it to computer shop and pay them to do it.  Or if you know someone that is computer savvy, you can let them do it.

    Good luck!

Thanks Jordan. Also, have you played around yet with the gaming, etc display settings via control panel with the existing driver? Jack E/NJ

Yeah, I've been playing around with lowering and decreasing settings for a while to see if it'll help funcitonality, but the game supports say that because the driver I have is older than the game itself, I need to update the driver for full function. I'll try that in a little bit and get back to you! Thank you guys so much for helping, I hope nothing goes wrong lol, but I did take Joradn's advice and I saved all my files on a USB.

Jack, I don't play many games with the Intel graphics, but if I were to play some games, I would manually install the lastest driver from Intel's website using one of those methods in my previous post, and then I would look at the link below to try to optimize the settings.

When I try to do the steps from Method 1: (I downloaded the latest driver from here https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26228/Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-10-and-Windows-7-8-1-15-40-?product=86210) I get a message saying that the "Best software for my device is already installed". How do I properly update the driver without Windows getting in my way?

Go back and re-read my posts.  I already told you that if Method1 doesn't work, then use Method2.

    Good luck.

Alright, but can you tell me why Method 1 isn't working? Does it not recognize it as a new driver or something? Why would Method 2 work instead?
