M5641 -- Where does power switch connect to motherboard?

Aspire M5641 won't power up. I replaced CMOS, did the "hold power button for 45 seconds" idea, tried different outlets, cords, etc. without success.

Before swapping out power supply, would like to make sure problem isn't in the switch.

I have one cover off, modem PCI card removed, but cannot find location of cable from power switch to motherboard (supposedly labeled PWRSW or PWR).

Would appreciate any help finding it, and/or assistance in fixing this power issue.

System had been working fine. A few day previous, I upgraded to an Acer monitor, using the HDMI port. Shouldn't have anything to do with problem, right? Thought I'd mention, as it's the only real change in months.

Thanks in advance for any help!

FAQ & Answers

  • Hello,

    A little diagnostic:

    1. Plug your desktop in a power strip with a switch.
    2. Switch on this one and wait one minute (capacitors loading).
    3. Switch off this one and check if the power light lights on briefly.

No way the switch is defective? Any chance you can answer my original question?

Where does power switch connect to motherboard?

  • The connector should be marked PANEL1 on the motherboard (switch and indicator).

No way the switch is defective?

No indicator means PSU defective and may be something else.
