BLACK screen Acer Aspire E5-511 Windows 8.1

Hi guys.

I'm at my wits end here. I want to throw the computer out the window.

Here is what is going on.

First, it's my Mom's computer, all she uses it for is facebook. She got it at Christmas, but didn't start using it right away, has really only used it a couple of months now.

She said all of a sudden yesterday evening, while playing a game on facebook, the screen went black. When she tried to start it up, nothing will happen.

There is no cursor, nothing. The power light will come on, and you can hear and feel the fan. I have taken it apart, put in another hard drive, no luck. I put in more memory, no luck. I took out memory, no luck. I put the memory in the other slot, no luck. I have hooked it up to an external hdmi, no luck. Tried hooking an external cd rom to it, no luck.

I have tried restarting with just the battery in, nothing. I have tried powering on with no battery, and just the charger, and nothing with that either. Again, the light and power will come on, but the screen doesn't do anything, not even a cursor.

I have hard reset, soft reset, and done it all. I want to scream. I really want to get this working for my Mom, she's the best, of course.

The only thing that I think might work, is a bios flash. I don't know how to go about that with a windows 8 computer, as all the tutorials that I have found are for older windows computers, and you need a *.fd file, and that does not seem available here on the acer site, for Mom's particular model. This also seems to be a common problem for acer computers, and that is not cool. Can anyone suggest to me how I can update the bios, or anything else that I can try, that might work?

    TheRealMrsMVP,

Sorry to hear that the Christmas present is not giving the best experience, it sounds like a hardware issue if you could not get an external display as well.

    Here are my suggestions:

    Set up a repair online

Chat online with a technician (available 24/7) -

So sorry about your christmas Present. Unfortunately, i just got same issue with my Acer Laptop and Just like  am lost.

i have tried the BIOS repairs using the latest BIOS version of my model, nothin!!!

Talking about Chatting Live. Not available 24/7 and only available within waranty service. The alternative Chat (AnswersBy) only attend to issues of customers with US/Canada.

still searching for the way out. am hoping to try a different video Card.
