Using Aspire One AO756 with Windows 7 64 bit. It is taking 5 minutes to load a basic page. It is so slow it is unusable. Have 4 Gig of RAM. Have removed McAfee Antivirus.  Have done all Windows Updates.  First got the computer on 12/25 and it was working fine.  For the last month it has been unusable and ready to get rid of it as a total waste of money if I can't get it better.

I'm no professional, Just giving you advice on what I do when I fix one of my familys computer.

If you know it's not your internet then you may be infected and it's slowing down your computer. Even if you have an antivirus you can get infected with malware and it will slow down your computer. I've seen it happen before, My sister got a new laptop and got infected with malware.trace and it made her computer super slow even though it was new.

From personal experience I suggest downloading malwarebytes http://www.malwarebytes.org/ . I'm using norton 360 and malwarebytes pro, I haven't been infected ever since.

Download malwarebytes and do a quick scan to see if you're infected.

Edit: I would also recommend using a different antivirus. I only have experience with norton, but you can download Microsoft security essentials for free from microsoft.com or avast (which is another popular free antivirus).

Just scan your computer for malware/viruses and clean your computer up a little. Otherwise the next step is to do a clean install which takes hours.

Thank you for the quick reply! I tried the malware program you suggested but it found no malicious items.  I did a full scan and it ran for about one hour but found no infections.  I had run a full scan on McAfee before uninstalling and it found no malicious items. I have tried using the Microsoft program you suggest and it found nothing.

I don't think I have any extra software that is slowing things down - have looked at Task Manager and it seems to not have anything running that is taking up any resources.

I tried to do a system restore but the oldest restore point was about a week earlier which was after the problem had started.

I think there is something wrong with my wireless adapter that it runs painfully slow but I cannot be sure.

I tried to download drivers from the Acer website but that has not seemed to help.

Can anyone else help? I am ready to do a clean install - don't know how I can do that though because the siftware was pre-loaded and machine has no cd drive to insert backup disks if I even had them.

    Acer forums seem dead.

I'd suggest going to tomshardware.com for help.

If you're in warranty best bet is to get help from acer support.
