Aspire E3-111 BIOS does not see HDD

Laptop is Aspire E3-111-C0QT, running Windows 7, System BIOS v1.19.
On Startup, Acer logo flashes, then goes to black screen with blinking underscore.
I reboot, press F2 to open InsydeH20 Setup Utility.  It erroneously lists HDD Model Name as Toshiba MQ01ABF050.
On InsydeH20 Setup Utility / Boot, the Boot Priority Order does not even include Acer HDD anymore.
F2 BIOS Setup / Boot Priority Order:
1. USB
2. ATAPI CDROM
3. HDD:  TOSHIBA...
4. USB HDD
5. USB CDROM

F12 Boot Manager / Boot Options:
1. HDD0:  TOSHIBA...
2. Network Boot:  Realtek PXE B03 D00

During a Restart after a pushed System Update, my Aspire E3-111 was connected via USB to a Seagate external hard drive that stored (among many other things) System Restore for an old Toshiba pc (HDD TOSHIBA MQ01ABF050).
For some unknown reason, my Aspire E3-111 BIOS does not seem to see Acer HDD, but only "sees" HDD of a Toshiba pc that no longer exists!
Help!

Does the laptop have the original hard drive that it shipped with? Have you installed a different drive in the laptop and if so, what brand?  If you unplug the USB drive, does the BIOS see any hard drive at all? Or does it still show up as a Toshiba?

Hi, Mary.  Thanks for hearing my plea for help!

Does the laptop have the original hard drive that it shipped with?

Yes, the laptop has the factory-original hard drive.  It's worked flawlessly since I purchased it new (I believe it was new.  Possibly was a Refurb--I can find out, if it's relevant...).

If I unplug the USB drive, does the BIOS see any hard drive at all? Or does it still show up as a Toshiba?

If I unplug the USB drive, the BIOS continues to list the hard drive as the Toshiba!

The BIOS selections don't change now whether the external hard drive (a Seagate, remember...) is connected or not.

    Strange...

Other than it being identified as a Toshiba, does it still work ok?

No, it doesn't work...  On Startup, Acer logo flashes, then goes to black screen with blinking underscore.  No matter what I try in the BIOS, it just goes back to a blinking underscore on restart...

If the BIOS isn't seeing the drive and it won't boot to Windows, generally this means the hard drive is bad and needs to be replaced. Acer can offer repair if you like; contact info is posted at http://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/service-contact. Hope this is helpful!
