I am trying to find out the best place to get a replacement battery. Is it best to just take it back to where I bought it to make sure it is the correct one ? TYIA

I usually order from Amazon - just give it "Acer Aspire 5517 battery".

May be useful. Here are the part numbers of the original batteries (first column):

Sorry to be a black rain cloud here, but I have an acer 5532 (pretty much the same as your 5517) and I've tried multiple aftermarket batteries, which are basically the only ones you can find.  I've tried 3 in the past 2 years, and the best one I decided to stick with was actually one of the cheaper ones I bought on amazon.  I get about a good solid 45 minutes, until the 40% meter plummets hard to 5%, and the computer goes into standby.

    The battery I currently is a made in China battery, and says "Replacement for AS07A31, AS07A32, AS07A41, LC.BTP00.012".  Li-ion 11.1v 5200mAh

Just didn't want you to get your hopes up, unfortunately paying more doesn't always mean your going to get a better battery, at least in my case it didn't.
