prodock wireless

Has anyone set up a Prodock Wireless? I think have it configured with the new Switch 12 but I cannot figure out how to get at resources on the dock. I'm able to open the web interface to the dock and understand its settings. But a simple flash drive is not seen by the 'docked' Switch convertible.

Perhaps I missed something when unpacking. No documentation here at Acer site. Only a firmware update.

If there is a client needed for this dock to work, I'd expect the dock to download that to the laptop as I connect.

in the dark for now...

It clearly shows in the tiny QuickGuide that you need a program called "Acer Prodock Wireless Manager." But this is nowhere to be found on Acer's site.

I'm trying to contact customer support and will leave more info here if I find an answer.

Without the client software, I believe the Prodock Wireless is useless.

Total waste of time. Cannot enter into a Chat because the SNID is unknown.

Cannot start a phone support call because the SNID is not recognized.

    Ugh!

    Time to send it back

Normally if you can't do the SNID thing it means you are either on the wrong support web page (such as the USA page when you purchased your product in the UK) or the purchase is so new the back end database servers haven't caught up yet. If the latter you should be able to just wait a day or so to get in, if the former you need to go to the correct website.

Driver should come with the dock, though they might be held in the dock firmware and installed the first time it's connected instead of on a disk. I haven't played with one yet, so can't say for sure...

    Thanks for the suggestions.

The support page, Drivers, has a single entry, firmware. All else is blank. This is a very new product. The mfg date on the label is 8/16.

The directions specify a piece of client software. No where does it say that you can somehow connect to the dock to install the client. I have correctly connected the dock, and with the brand new Switch alpha 12 connected via Wifi. I can get into the config page on the dock. Within that web based config there is no option for downloading software to the connected Switch Alpha. I guess I could try something crazy like just hook the dock up directly to a usb port but would take a male/male cable. Kind of unusual.

I've tried the Registration page. That does not seem to take.

I just tried the chat again with both SNID and S/N, no luck. "The Serial Number or SNID you entered cannot be found in our system"

I've deployed the Switch Alpha but the project manager is getting impatient about his dock.

So, a bit of a Catch 22 wouldn't you agree...

Finally figured it out. The model of Acer notebook we ordered at the time we ordered the dock is NOT compatible with the dock. Only the Acer laptops supporting WiGig, 802.11 AD, will work. Those laptops DO have the wireless dock client software available on the Acer drivers/downloads area and I assume they come installed on the units that ship with WiGig capability.
Moral of the story: buy compatible equipment and don't look to vendors to help you figure that out. I do wish Acer was more clearly listing the compatible units on their marketing page for the Prodock Wireless.
