Fairly new laptop. battery indicator shows 100%, battery troubleshooter shows no problem, but if I remove the power cord it shuts down.

Go to Device Manager, Batteries and click the arrow. Right click Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and choose uninstall, reboot and let Windows reinstall. see if it still says 100%.

Done that. It still reports 100%, and still switches off when I unplug. Sigh. Luckily, it's under warranty.

It sounds like the laptop is reporting the battery is full, but is actually dead. I'm wondering if the battery plug inside is partially unplugged, maybe cocked a bit Where the pins that report the charge are connected, but one of the pins that deliver the power is loose or the battery is defective internally. On this laptop, you have to remove the palmrest/upper cover to get to the battery.

Give this a try, as a last resort, shut down, unplug and find the tiny battery reset hole in the bottom. With a paperclip, gently push into the hole until you feel a click and hold it for 5 seconds. Plug in and start.
