When viewing video or tv content on the internet via our tv using hdmi, after some time the screen goes black, a few moments later the sound goes off, then the laptop restarts. This doesn't happen if I watch content that has been downloaded to the laptop then played through the tv. The error message that appears in event viewer is as follows:-

Can anyone tell me what is causing this and how I might fix it? Thanks.

The issue could be related to Display drivers then please try the steps provided to uninstall the Display Adapterfrom Device Manager, uninstall the device drivers from program list and then download the latest drivers from the manufacturer's website.

    Step 1:

Uninstall the Device from Device Manager

    • Open Device Manager
    • Expand the Display Adapter section.
    • Find the Display card Driver.
    • Right click Display card Driver and select Uninstall.
    • Select the check box delete the driver software for this device.
    • Reboot the computer after uninstall process has finished.

    Step 2:

Uninstall the Device Drivers from Program List in Control Panel

    • Click on start, select Control Panel
    • Now click on Programs and select Programs and Features.
    • Find the Display card Driver.
    • Right click Display card Driver and select Uninstall.
    • Reboot the computer after the uninstall process has finished.

I tried it and it seems to have worked so far. Fingers crossed!

Tried that but it didn't work I'm afraid. I'm happy to get rid of Cortana though. I find it extremely irritating. So thanks for that. Any more ideas?

    Regards,

  • Did yur laptop come with Win 10, you upgraded to Win 10 or it i a clean install of Win 10?

Now that Cortana is off, what does the event log say?

  • For the first one, I don't know if this will fix your's, but worth a try.

To run regedit as Admin, in Windows search type regedit, then right click on it and choose Run as Administrator.

The second one is the Windows Manager. See if the first fixes the second.

Do you think I would be better advised to wipe everything and start the system again from scratch? I'm getting pretty fed up with this. But thanks for trying. I'll be grateful for any further help received.

  • Yes. Hold ALT + F10 at start and see if Recovery starts.

  • I wouldn't have thought just updating the display driver would fix all the things you had showing up in the event log. Good going.

You were right, it didn't fix the problem properly. It was fine for a couple of days and then exactly the same thing happened again. Back to square one!!! Unless you can advise me differently all I can think of now is to get an external hard drive to back up all of my pics and documents then completely wipe the hard drive and restore to factory defaults. It seems a bit of a drastic solution though.
