Any downside to overclocking?

Hi everyone,

I appologize if this is such a noob question but is there any downside to "overclocking" my XB271HU to 165hz?

Does it somehow affect the warranty? Is color accuracty/brightness affected?

I guess my main confusion is, if there is no negative, why does it come set to 144hz out of the box and not the full 165hz?

Thanks.

Yeah, I have the same question. I've been running mine at 165 Hz for a few weeks. So far, no problems with it. Others have suggested running it overclocked at various rates to get around the vertical line issue for my monitor. The jury is still out on if that is just placebo effect or if it really is solving the problem.

Anyways, here is the only official word I've found from Acer on the matter. At the bottom of http://www.acer.com/ac/vi/VN/content/predator-xb1-series, they say the following:

"* Overclocking may result in flicker or other adverse effects that may derive from the total configuration of the system connected to the display, and possibly, in addition, the display's panel specifications. It may be possible to resolve or reduce such effects by setting a lower refresh rate."

The only thing I could think of is if you're worried about it, maybe only set your games to use the 165 Hz refresh rate, and choose 144 Hz (since it is still an option when overclocking) for when you're at the desktop.

That makes sense. Thanks for the info. If I find anything else I'll post it here for sure.
