That error can be a bad ram stick.

by the way, about recovery disks:

    Acer recovery media
if you are in the US you can buy it:
    http://store.acer.com/store/aceramer/en_US/eRecovery

if you are outside the US, you must call/email your regional Acer support service:

I have an Aspire 7551-7422 which was given to me to fix - for a young girl whose folks can not afford a computer for her - and this one will not finish it's boot up - so I am looking for a recovery disk - but the link above just goes to an error page! I am thinking and kind of assuming, that Acer has stopped providing them - does anyone know, or have one that I might be able to get a hold of??  Thanks for any help you can give on this!

    I CAN NOT BELIEVE IT!

I ordered the disks, which arrived today!

I started the boot up and tried to get to the boot menu by using F12, but it wasn't working, so I used the F2 key, and entered in to the Set Up. I found that the F12 boot menu was disabled, so I enabled it and rebooted. I rebooted and using F12 I had the boot start from the DVD drive.

Now, according to the directions that came with the disks, you start out by putting in the System Disk and the instructions say that it will then ask for the 1st (of 3) recovery disk .... BUT the system boots, you see the Microsoft splash screen and then the screen goes black and it says "Please wait a moment ...."  THEN it just sits there and it does NOTHING!

    Any suggestions?

try to wipe your HDD before using the recovery media
    http://www.partitionwizard.com/partition-wizard-bootable-cd.html
    download the .iso file
then use a software to burn CD/DVD or USB flash drive and burn the .iso file
once done, put the CD/DVD/USB on your PC, boot from CD/USB (maybe you need to boot under Legacy if you have UEFI BIOS)
press F12 at boot and choose CD or USB
    at the desktop
    select your HDD
right click on your HDD icon and choose delete all partitions and click on yes and then apply
