how to enable/disable AMD freesync on xg270hu monitor

Hi,

I have an open ticket with AMD, in order to setup FreeSync. They said I should enable the AMD Free Sync from the monitor OSD (settings). I connected the monitor to my AMD GPU with the DP cable, so I should benefit from the Free Sync technology. I could not find the Free Sync enable/disable, in the OSD setting and there is no mention in the manual about this.

Please let me know how can I enable/disable free sync, in the monitor settings.

Regards,

Cornel

I have free sync working on my xg270hu after a few hours of troubleshooting.

There is no option in the Acer OSD setting to enable other than making sure DP format in your monitors settings is set to "1.2". FreeSync will then automatically be enabled if setup correctly on your pc (instructions below).

First lets make sure you're using a display port cable and a compatible AMD card (listed below). So to get Freesync to work you have to 1st go download the Acer driver for windows here, find your model, download the latest driver, and then Unzip the folder to a place you can find it later (desktop, download folder...etc).

Then download the latest AMD crimson driver (as of this post Crimson 16.7.2 Hotfix is the latest one),

Install it, then restart your computer.

you will now need to install the Acer driver for your monitor so when you look in windows device manager it doesn't just say "generic PnP monitor".

Since Acers driver is not signed, you will need to disable Windows driver signature enforcement (instructions to do this for Win8 or Win10) to install it.

Now that driver signature enforcement is disabled, open device manager and click on the monitors drop down, right click on "Generic PnP Monitor" and select "update driver software..." -> "Browse my computer for driver software" ->"Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer", then towards the bottom right, select "Have Disk...". Next choose the "browse" option and find your way to the Acer driver folder (that you downloaded and unziped earlier) and click "ok". A warning sign will apear, choose the option to install it anyway.

So now you should have the Acer driver and newest AMD Crimson driver is installed on your pc. lets make sure you have freesync enabled in the crimson radeon settings (right click desktop -> AMD Radeon settings -> Display -> click the AMD FreeSynce toggle on).

The last step is to switch your monitor to 144hz in windows. Right click the desktop -> Display settings -> advanced display settings -> Display adapter properties -> click on the Monitor tab -> select Screen refresh rate -> select 144 Hertz -> Click "Apply".

Now go open a game and FreeSync should be working. To verify Freesync is working on your monitor besides the game no longer tearing. Open the Menu/OSD while in game and scroll down to the 'i" or information tab and you will see the Vertical refresh or "V:" alternating its number to match your FPS.

Have fun and I hope this helps a lot of you out there!

What AMD graphics cards are you using and what cable (hdmi, display port, dvi) are you using to connect your graphics card to the monitor?

The R7 370 does not support freesync. It's using the old gcn 1.0 architecture and It's not on amd's list of compatible cards.

Here is an article from digital trends that goes over it.
