Just a general inquiry into an old Acer laptop I have..I do not have the specs at this very moment but will get them later. There hav e been many issues with it and now the laptop screen is pooched.. It will not turn on but the computer itself will.. I have done a clean with a disc my friend had many times, I am not the best when it comes to computers.. I had crystal eye webcam and could no longer find the program when the computer was working..I am wondering if it is possible if there is a way I can extract old photos/videos from the laptop as well as other info that I had lost.

Appreciate it,

P.S

I chose a random board as I have no idea what I am doing lol

If you do not succeed to fix the computer, and assuming the problem is not a dead drive, you can open it up, and remove the hard drive.

Then buy an external enclosure that matches the type of drive it is, put your drive in it, and you will be able to connect your drive to any other computer and get any file that is on it.

Thats great thank you very much for the reply! If I have wiped the PC clean a few times would I only have access to the most recent files or would I be able to access older ones as well.

    Thank you

You will have access to the whole disk, everything that is on it at the time you take it out.

But if you have deleted things on the drive and used it after that, you wont get the deleted files.

So I am not sure what you mean by wiped the disk. if you reformatted it, then your data is gone for easy access. There are some recovery program that could allow you to eventually recover deleted stuff, but that is a whole different subject.

So you would need to clarify what you meant here.

Sorry, I believe I just wiped it clean and reformatted I have never removed anything from the hard drive itself.

Sorry but this is a conflicting statement Smiley Happy

If you formatted the whole drive, then you removed everything from it.

If that is the case, then when you will connect the drive as an external drive to anither system, it will show as empty.

If you have super important things on that drive you ned to recover, there are some tools you can try to recover what has been erased by the formattig, but it wont be trivial...

In any case, it does not hurt to remove the drive and put it in an enclosure to double check.
