Acer Aspire R3-131t USB 3.0 port not working with usb 3 ext HDD after updating BIOS to 1.12 version. After upgrading BIOS to latest version 1.12 USB 3.o port can read only usb 2.0 ext HDDs and usb 2.0 flash drives.

Are you getting an error or is the drive just not appearing ? Does it show up in DISKMGMT.MSC ?

I can see the ext HDD in Device Manager but it is just showing as emty disk for 1 second, after that for another second is showing as unredable disk. And all that is repeating in interval of 15 to 30 seconds and keeps doing it forever. I have checked and performed more than 100 solutions and ideas from all possible sites and forums. The final coclusion is that I`ll have to wait for BIOS fix.

Possibly or find a way to roll the BIOS back (I vaugly remember a registry diddle that could allow that if you have the earlier one). I see a 1.06 and a 1.09.

First I'd look in the BIOS setup for a switch relating to USB though Acer BIOSs from InSyte tend to be rather sparse.

I also had a similar problem with BIOS 1.13. Four out of 6 USB 3.0 drive enclosures would not work properly, either booting from them or under Windows 10. Some were not even detected by the BIOS or by Windows!

I downgraded the BIOS to 1.09 and all the problems almost completely disappeared.

I say almost, because I managed to corrupt a USB SSD when booting from it to WindowsToGo...

BIOS 1.09 seems better with USB booting BUT

Behaviour under Windows is still bad.

When using USB 3.0 drive enclosures + Samsung EV 840 SSD, I get hanging, file corruption, dropping connection, etc.

Happens with four different HDD enclosures. No problem with any other notebook or PC.

Something is 'wrong' with the USB 3.0 port on the R3-131T?
