Hello everyone. My keyboard has stopped working. I'm using the onscreen keyboard which is very slow. I asked Acer support for assistance but it appears that their keyboards are defective too because they haven't responded. I'd be most grateful if anyone could offer a solution please?

Update 11/6/16. I tried resetting the battery as suggested by one very helpful member of the community but it didn't work. I've now plugged in a seperate keyboard via one of the USB ports and it works fine so I reckon the fault must be a defective keyboard but I'n not too savvy about these things so I'm not entirely sure.

Acer's technical department also responded to my enquiry. It'll cost over £47 just to send it to them for assessment and that's before the cost of any repair. I can't say that I'm impressed particularly as a qualified and experienced computer repair technician that has a shop near me said that he charges just £5 to replace keyboards, if that's where the fault lies!

I'd be glad to hear from anyone else if they have any suggestions?

    Hello Laurent,

Nothing happened when I pressed the F2 key but I have good news. The problem is fixed.

I received an email from Acer technical support and followed the steps their techie outlined. It worked.

I've copied the steps below for your information in case you find it useful.

Please press windows key + X key to open the device manager.

    >>In Device Manager, expand keyboard >> right click and then click Uninstall.

    >>When you are prompted to confirm that you want to remove the device, click OK.

    >>Restart the computer.

    >>After the computer restarts, the drivers will be automatically installed.

It's interesting to note that AVG were not able to resolve the issue. The problem was identified on their Tune Up display so I thought that it was an AVG problem. I contacted them and they tried to fix it without success after spending quite a lot of time at it.

Thanks again for taking the trouble to reply with solutions. I really do appreciate it. I'd buy you a pint if I could!

I must now learn to navigate round the Community Forum pages because it's clearly a useful source of assistance.

    Regards

    Hello,

    Have you already tried this:

    1. Shut down your laptop

    2. Disconnect the AC adapter

    3. Wait few minutes

    4. Follow this procedure

Note: The battery reset pinhole is marked with this symbol AC-BRP on the bottom of the laptop.

    Good morning Laurent,

Thanks for replying. I may have marked my post as solved when I moved the mouse accidentally when clicking on "reply". I haven't yet solved the issue.

The steps that you outlined are very clear and easy to follow. I'm grateful for your advice.

I didn't think the problem was a battery issue because all other functions appear to be working. Will resetting the battery have a bearing on this fault? My technical knowledge is very limited and I'm reluctant to proceed if a battery reset might affect some other function that I'm not aware of.

    Regards

    Hello,

Most of keyboard issues are solved by this procedure. You should try it and with a bit of luck...

    Hello Laurent,

Thanks again for taking the trouble to try and help. I tried your suggestion but it didn't work. I've updated my original post. Thanks anyway, especially as your instructions were very easy to follow. (I'm a complete novice and it's often the case that instruction guides go straight over my head!)

    You're welcome.Smiley Happy

When you start up your laptop and press [F2] when you see the Acer logo, does it work? (only with the laptop keyboard)

    Note:

I can also indicate you the part number of your keyboard:

    Hi Stephen,

Thanks for your useful feedback. I thought about that but I was not sure that would work.

I'd buy you a pint if I could! ... Super Nice!Smiley Very Happy

I'm not so far. Just on the other side of the Channel. 6 hours by the ferry boat. Somewhere in the land of the Vikings and I like the good beer without abuse of course. Smiley Tongue

It would be a pint of Guiness. I'm in Ulster so I'd need two ferries and a bit more than 6 hours!
