I don't know what a w8 is... Do you have the full model number (like W4-820)? Which OS is it running?

OK, it's either a W1-810 or a W3-810. They are both 8" Windows tablets. You might be able to find out which by running msinfo32 and looking at the System Model field. Which OS is running on it? Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10? If you have recently upgraded to Windows 10, IIRC they have the wrong default for screen rotation, swipe in from the right and make sure Rotation Lock is off. If that doesn't help open Device Manager and see if it's got anything marked as a problem (exclamation point or x).

Thankyou.  Yes it is a W1-810 and it came with Windows 10 installed.  I have just run a windows update and 3 changes have been made.  Fortunately this worked and my screen now rotates.

I am a bit disconcerted about why I dont get the full facebook page though?

Also, is there any way to put apps on from Google playstore.  From what I can see Windows doesnt have the same choice and quality of free apps.  I wanted for example ES File explorer and Orweb and torrents but I have to make do with some quite inferior alternative.

I have plugged the tablet into the laptop and nothing is happening.  Why is this?

Whe you say you don't get a full Facebook page, what do you mean? Do you have to scroll right and left to see it all or are there parts that just aren't displayed? Which browser are you using, Edge, Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome?

You won't be able to run apps from Google Play Store. They only run on Android, not on Windows. There are lots and lots of Windows programs that aren't in the Windows Store though. You should be able to run almost all of them.

When you say you plugged the tablet into your notebook, how did you plug it in? They won't tak to each other over USB, since they are both masters. Better is to just use your network to copy files and such, Google Windows Homegroup for more info on the easiest way to configure that.

I have the same Iconia as you, bought yesterday, and mine rotated when I got it but after doing some Windows Updates it now doesn't, no matter how much I toggle rotation lock. I found an Intel graphics utility in the System tray at bottom right. It allows me rotate the graphics display. This works for some of the apps I've tried (eg watching videos) but some need to be restarted before they notice that the screen has changed.

Hmm... More updates came down overnight and now it rotates.

Facebook is missing icons across the top.

I have two other tablets and I can plug them via USB into the laptop and transfer files. On this new tab I am uploading to one drive or Bluetooth IMG them...which takes ages. What a pain in the neck this system is!

If you're trying to transfer files to a Windows PC, you can add the tablet to the same Workgroup, then just drag and drop the files using the file manager.

Thanks but I don't know how to do that...is it long winded? And how can you do it if you can't connect via usb?

That's just it. You don't need to connect via USB. As long as your home PC is connected to the internet via a router (either wired or WiFi), you share files over the network.

Here's what might be the best article on how to do it, as it gives you step-by-step instructions.

    http://www.windowscentral.com/how-setup-and-manage-windows-10-homegroup-local-network

When it comes to deciding which folders or libraries to share, you might want to select Documents as well as the defaults. Or you can add folders later using the instructions in the How to add new folders to shared HomeGroup libraries section.

Once you've got it all set up, you can open a File Explorer window and drag and drop files in or out of your HomeGroup folders to share them from one machine to another.

Can this be done on windows 7. Someone also suggested a USB on the go connector.....what do you think?

It was a long time ago that I set up networking in my Windows 7 and I've forgotten a few things but networking works the same way in Windows 7 as it does in Windows 10. Some of the settings might have different names, though.

A USB on-the-go cable is useful with USB drives and memory sticks, but a regular USB to mini USB connector should also work, I would think, as any windows 10 tablet is a USB host.
