1. I am about to buy an ACER z3-715-RU52.

2. Can I swap the HD by a SSD Crucial BX100 250GB SATA 2.5 Inch Internal Solid State Drive - CT250BX100SSD1 ???

3. Can I increase the memory to a 16 GB with Crucial 16GB Kit (8GBx2) DDR3-1600 MT/s (PC3-12800) 204-Pin SODIMM Notebook Memory CT2KIT102464BF160B / CT2CP102464BF160B ??

Please confirm that the BIOS of the computer would accomodate such alterations and how to customize it.

    Hello,

    1. I think you made a mistake. You own an Aspire Z3-715-UR52.

    2. Yes. Don't forget to create the factory recovery media and to backup your personal data before the replacement. Stock correctly the original HDD.
You have a better solution. You can install a SSD M2.2280 SATA 3 of 256/512Gb. In this case, you will keep the HDD for your personal data.

    3. No. Your AIO supports up to 16Gb - DDR4 - 2133MHz (2x8Gb)
Here are the original memory modules:
      Spoiler
      KN.8GB0B.032SODIMM.DDR4.2133.8GB (Samsung)
      KN.8GB0G.037SODIMM.DDR4.2133.8GB (Hynix)
You'll find the Crucial memory modules here.

    Dear Laurent :

I really appreciate your interest in my questions and the good willing of your reply.

I would like to comment as follows :

    1. You are right. It is an Aspire and not an Acer.
    2. Looking at your reference about the Crucial SSD in its page at Internet, I noted that there is a SSD MX200 1TB SATA 6GB/s 2.5 Ínternal SSD and other 120 GB model no longer available. There is no notice of yours M2.2280 SATA 3 of 256/512Gb.  I guess that 1TB would be much larger than the space I need. So I would decide for the AMAZON Crucial BX100 250GB SATA 2.5 Inch Internal Solid State Drive - CT250BX100SSD1 at the price of USD 66.99. Hope you endorse my decision.Your recommendations will be followed as stated by you, for which I thank you for guidance.
    3. Being confirmed that the Z3-715 can accommodate 16 GB, will maintain also the AMAZON Crucial 16GB Kit (8GBx2) DDR3-1600 MT/s (PC3-12800) 204-Pin SODIMM Notebook Memory CT2KIT102464BF160B / CT2CP102464BF160B at the price of USD 60.14.
    1. Let me abuse of your patience with me and ask if the BIOS of Z3 would accept the storage swap and if there is any place which guides me to carry on the alterations by myself.

Again I thank you very much for your precious assistance.

    Rgds

    Dear Laurent :

All fully understood. Definitely will use DDR4

Only one thing was overlooked :

“Let me abuse of your patience with me and may I ask if the BIOS of Z3 would accept the storage swap and if there is any place which guides me to carry on the alterations by myself."

Do you think that the Acer BIOS is prepared to swap HD by SSD in the alteration ? Any special customization item deserves a special procedure / eventually there is a "hide" procedure only for experts, or can I do the change by myself, being a newbie ?

    Rgds

We will have no problems with the bios.

When the SSD will be installed, you will have to install Windows from your recovery media.

You can read the Ironfly's KB.

Don't worry! If you have an issue, one of the ACE members will answer you.

    Unquote.

Is there in the RU52 a special bank or it is needed some special adjust part and cables to install the M2 and still leave the original HD in place ?

I am afraid that when opened the AIO, there is no specific place for M2.

    Please enlighten me.

    Hello,

The M.2 SATA slot is hidden.Smiley Happy It is located on the other side of the motherboard (see attachment).

If you choose this option, you'll only need one screw to fix/lock it on the motherboard:

I want purchase for my wife an Acer Aspire R 11 R3-131T-P7HA 11.6" Signature Edition Laptop, Windows 10.

I want you, please, confirm that it has a slot capable to accommodate a Samsung 850 EVO 250 GB M.2 SSD ( MZ-N5E250BW ).

In such case I would maintain its original HD and will have the benefit of an additional 250 GB.

Please be so kind to assist me.

    Hello,

Aspire R3-131T has no M.2 SATA slot. Only one SATA connector. You can only replace the HDD by a SSD 2.5" (7mm).

I finished purchasing of the AOL as told you before.

Gave it to an "expert " who inserted the M.2 slot 250 GB, leaving in place the original HD, which means I now have two storage units, as recommended by you successfully.

However, the so called "expert" failed to move the factory condition from the original HD to SSD.

Obviously I want to have the SSD as primary storage for speeding up applications.

I guess that with your guidance I can do this operation by myself, as it does not involve dismounting of computer.

That been told, I kindly ask your guidance how to proceed with this operation, including detailed information for me, as dummy man, how to move the files from HD to SSD and further to alter the BIOS, so that computer recognizes this alteration.

Thanking you again  for your assistance, I am

    Faithfully Yours

    Tinkerer

    Hello,

I am a bit puzzled by the range of sub-models for the Aspire Z3 715.

The one I just ordered is the Z3-715-644G1T23MGi/T001 (DQ.B2XST.001) - seems to be the only one available here (Thailand). There is no mention of a URxx number..

Can I still upgrade the above model with additional RAM and a M.2 SSD (without replacing the existing 1 TB built-in drive?). I think the RAM upgrade is rather straight forward (though a silly question: Can I just add a 8GB model and then have 12 GB in total or does the two modules need to be identical in size?)

For the SSD, is there a tutorial how to make the M.2 the primary harddrive to take most advantage of  its speed?

    thanks a lot in advance!

    Hi SDRUMS,

    You wrote:

"However, the so called "expert" failed to move the factory condition from the original HD to SSD."

As your AIO is under warranty, he preferred to leave the original disk. If you have to return your AIO, it must have the original HDD.

So I will describe the procedure step by step:

First step: You have to create the factory recovery media and save your personal datas (files).

    Hi  Filipo1,

Could you create a new topic? Thanks.

Can I abuse of your good willing asking you to send again the correct message to me ?

It came also by mistake a message for Filipo 1

    Appreciated your quick reply.

However, besides the change of main storage unit to SSD, It still remains the problem of adquate the BIOS to the new situation.

Can you please give me a light also in this sense ?

You will have to remove the original HDD and perform a clean install on the new SSD using your factory recovery media. Make a test with the SSD. After that, you will wipe (eraze) and format the original HDD (only one OS and other procedure). The HDD installed will become your data storage. Finally keep preciously the USB Flash Drive.

It might be our messages crossed on the air.

After performing the HD/SSD procedure you indicated to me, how can I proceeded for using the SSD as my primary unit so that I will have all programs installed there, leaving the files to second storage HD.

Guess there are alterations to make in the BIOS and I am really afraid to do the things wrong and cause a big problem.

    Please instruct how to proceed.
