Updating acer iconia A500 - yellow exclamation mark

Hello,

I have an Acer iconia A500 currently running android 3.2.1 that I would like to update to the latest version.

Using built-in system update does not work ("Network coverage is surrently poor" error), so I try to update it manually.

The build number is Acer_A500_7.014.01_COM_GEN1

So I went to acer product support website, downloaded 7.014.01.041.203.01.WW.GEN1  (OS_Acer_7.014.01.041.203.01.WW.GEN1_A32H_A.zip file) (as 4.x version pre-requires this), then extracted the update.zip file and copied it into a fat32-formatted microSD card. I plugged the tablet to power, inserted the sd card and pressed the power button while holding down the volume button.

"Booting recovery kernel image" text appears at the top left of the screen, the android robot pops up and a yellow exclamation mark appears inside of it. Any ideas what the problem is?

It looks to me like you are trying to load the same version as is already installed... To make sure, the root folder of your SD card has the file 'update.zip' in it, not files extracted from the update.zip file?

Hey thank you for your reply.

I finally managed to solve my problem. The root folder already had update.zip in it, not extracted files, but this is what I did: I changed to a different SD card and I re-downloaded the update file. I don't know exactly which of the two was it, but the update worked this time and now the tablet works better than ever.

I wish Acer had not disabled automatic internet updates though, it would have saved me so much time.
