V3 571G won't start after temporary RAM swap

Hi

I used my V3 571G to test RAM from other laptop. First I only swapped 1 of 2 original 8GB RAM with other 4GB. Only 4GB card showed up in BIOS and it took maybe half minute before I could navigate in BIOS (no respond to navigation keys). Exited without saving. System started ok. After shutdown I replaced original 8GB RAM in top slot. After battery replacement and pressing of power button 'power on' led solid, fan working, screen black, HD led on for 1-2s then off. Nothing happens over 5min... Few combinations of original 8GB RAM changed nothing. Single 8GB RAM replacement with the previously inserted 4GB, nothing. Only 4GB in bottom slot - machine starts and runs normal. Tried disconnecting DC and taking battery out then holding power button depressed for about 15s. Battery back in, pressed power button: fan and power led on, HD led on for 1-2s. Please help!

Best regards

Are you trying to run more that 8GB in the V3 571G?

    Hi,

Both RAM were the same? Were the other RAM sticks (the 4 GB ones) DDR3L? While both are compatible in the slot one runs just at 1.5V and one runs at 1.5V or 1.35V.

The only thing which would come into my mind is that you had DDR3 and you put in a stick of DD3L. And somehow the BIOS had recognized the DDR3L and changed the voltage, thus now you run at 1.35V which I think it will not be enough for the DDR3 memory.

The only option which I would see is to do a BIOS reset (try to load setup defaults) or if you have option for the voltage try to put it to 1.5 if you have DDR3 memory.

Hi philetus, yes, my laptop came originally with 2no kingston 8gb 2rx8 pc3l-12800s-11-11-f3 and I've put both of them back in after testing a single Samsung 4gb 1rx8 pc3l-12800s-11-11-b2.

    Hi sharky25k, I think all are DDR3.

BIOS is supplied by acer V2.21 and doesn't even show the voltage or type of RAM, only total count.

Checked specs - both types operate on 1.35V

    Hi,

The PC3L tells you that both of them are DDR3L memories so there is no any issue with this.

May I ask you did you try to remove the CMOS battery? It's the small lithium ion battery which provides power for your notebook (to run the clock etc).

This would reset the BIOS to default settings and it might work.

Also if you can check if your old ram is working in other computer.

I hope that during the RAM swapping you did remove the battery. Otherwise, this could be the reason why now the sticks are not working.

Are you sure you had 16GB in it? Every place I look says the max is 8GB. Download CPUz and see if it says 2-8GB.
