aspire m5-583 touchscreen not working
My Aspire 5-583p's touchscreen hasn't worked in a long while. I'd say about 6 months or so. No new programs installed nor drops/spills/accidents or anything. It stopped working before I upgraded from windows 8.1 to windows 10. Thought that upgrading might somehow help. But to no avail.
So far I've tried: updating drivers, disabling and enabling the drivers, uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers, refreshing my pc, and taking apart the screen to make sure the the sensor is plugged in and secure.
Also looked through every setting I could imagine as well as the manual.
My last resort is going to be restoring to factory settings but I'm open to any suggestions beore I take the plunge.

Step 1. Press Windows+X
Step 2. Open Device Manager
Step 3. Open Human Interface Devices
Step 4. HID - Compliant Touch screen
Step 5. Right Click to Disable
Step 6. Right Click again to Enable

That's the one I see the most. Saw this "I actually disabled and rebooted before reenabling, but it worked."
Worth a try.

Unfortunately that didn't do it either. Even tried rebooting after enabling.
After looking through the forum a bit and seeing posts about other models and touchscreen issues, I saw that it may be something to do with the bios. I'd like to explore that route but I don't know how to go about it. Any suggestions?

Type msinfo32 in windows search. See what the bios version and date is. If it's earlier than V. 2.30 1/20/2015, download this and extract it to a new folder on your desktop.
Make sure you are plugged in and the battery is charged. Disconnect anything plugged into the computer like usb drives, etc. Open folder and douple click on the bios executable. Don't do anything else unless told to.

Good news: my bios is up to date now and that's always good.
bad news: no change in touch screen.
I'm really not sure what else it could be

Run the Intel update utility and see if Intel recommends anything.

Did you try right clicking on the HID-compliant touchscreen and select update driver in Device Manager?
