There should be three partitions, there are issues that can show up if you try using the reocvery disks without removing all three first. Since you are at the state that your old system is gone (formatted C), just wipe the rest of the partitions off and run the DVD for a reset to original. It will create the appropriate partitoins for you. Once everything is back on you can lookup here suggestions on removing the recovery partition (if yours is several gigs in size) to free up some space, since that partition isn't needed if you have the recovery DVDs.

Hi billsey, I merged the EFI partition into the primary partition and now the computer will not boot ,how do I format the hard drive to start all over. A window pops up saying I have to boot with legacy bios but that doesn't work either. Can I boot from a usb bootable partition manager ?  i thank you for the previous answer you gave me !!!  harry

You should be booting from your recovery disks. If you have an OS disk, you can boot from that to remove the partitions. If you just merged everything into one partition that wouldn't work, you want to start the recovery process with no partitions on the drive.
