Acer Iconia B1-720 update fails

Hi there,

 

I've tried to run the over-the-air update on this device a number of times. Each time it asks if I would like to "Restart & install", and I click yes. It goes to the Android update screen, an error quickly flashes and it reboots. Once it comes back, it says "The update failed".

 

Any suggestions on how I could troubleshoot the update or run it manually?

    if under warranty, i can only suggest to contact the Acer support service, not a standard behaviour on updates.

    Have you a microSD inserted on your tablet?

    is your battery at least charged to 60%?

    is your device rooted?

    It fails whether there's a card inserted or not.

    Yes.

    microSD must be inserted or update will fail, at this point i would suggest you to do a factory reset and retry to apply the update.

     

    factory reset, you have to backup all your personal data before apply it:

    settings/backup&reset/factory data reset

     

    no way to do it manually, since no update is available to download from the Acer support website.

    No luck, I'm afraid. I reset the tablet to factory settings and made sure that it recognized the SD card. I ran the update again and it failed with the same behaviour and error messages. Any other suggestions for things I can try?

    I am having the same issue that you had. Did you get any help from Acer?

    I'm afraid not. Acer Support suggested essentially the same things, and I couldn't be bothered to tinker with the tablet, so I gave up. My daughter basically learned to ignore the update notification. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
