Hi everyone, I hope there's someone out there who can help me. I have an Aspire V3-571 which I recovered to factory settings or so I thought. After all the files had been cleared and the system recovered it re-started and displayed a black screen with " Setup is starting services" and a flashing progress light underneath. this has been like that for eight(8) hours. is this normal or should I be worried? As it stands I have no control over the machine either on the touchpad or mouse. I have recovery discs that came with the computer from Currys but they're not being recognised either.

8 hours is a little too much, you can try to shut it down and repear the recovery process.

do a long press on power button to shut it down

then at next boot press Alt+F10 and check if you are able to start Acer recovery process

    if not

Enter BIOS pressing F2 at boot

enable F12 boot menu if not already enabled

    save and exit

put your first recovery Disk on your laptop

shutdown your laptop doing the long press on power button

at next boot press F12 and then on boot list select DVD/CD reader

Unfortunately IronFly , none of these worked. As soon as any sort of screen comes up I lose the cursor and can' do anything. I can judge however by your answer that you certainly know more than me. Therefore can I ask you if installing a new hard drive or some other component would sort it out..... Mike.

I'll post again to let you know how I got on. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with me....Mike
