(Aspire ES1-512) can't remove hdd password

I set an HDD password a while ago, and while I haven't forgotten it, I can't remove it. I can change it to another password, but when I leave the new and confirm fields blank and hit f10, the change isn't saved and the previous hdd password remains. the hdd password is 'set' and the supervisor and user passwords are 'clear'.

Is there another way to clear the hdd password? I'm bios version v1.09.

Delete the old password and enter a new, but use the space bar how ever many times you had a digit in the password. Password was 12345, hit spacebar 5 times and again in re-enter password.

Let me know how that does.

No dice, same result as before. it doesn't seem to recognise white space as a character, either (messing around, I found that it would accept a different number of white space characters in the new and confirm password fields as the same).

    not sure but...

move to new password, press enter

normally it go to confirm password, press enter

    F10 save and exit

if this doesn't work, i would update BIOS to the latest version and try again.

It doesn't sound like you're doing it right.

You leave the password blank, but you still have to press the enter key.  Do that for both the password and confirmation.

Don't hit F10.  Navigate in the menu and save/exit. (use the arrow keys to navigate)

    First set a supervisor password.

I don't think you can change the HDD password (or remove the password) unless you set a supervisor password.

yes I hit the enter key when leaving the password and confirmation fields blank, I've tried saving with f10 and the menu option, and I've changed the hdd password multiple times without a supervisor password, but I added one to see if it would let me remove the hdd password with a supervisor password. no luck. interestingly I was able to remove the supervisor password no problem, but it still won't save the removal of an hdd password

There's a chance, if you put the HDD in another computer, you may be able to clear the password.

Have you tried it this way?

Enter current password, enter-enter-enter-save and exit?
