Acer W500/W501 Auto Rotation on Windows 8.1/10

I have recently upgraded the Acer Iconia W501P from Windows 7 to Windows 10 and everything seems to be working and no drivers are missing.

The only thing that needed attention was the Auto Rotation feauture, because the Device Control software software crashes when launched in Windows 10.

I did further investigation on how the auto rotation works and manged to write a small tray icon program that will pick up the rotation from the Bosch sensor and change the resolution based on the detected rotation.

If anyone is interested in the program then let me know if I should upload it somewhere.

On my Switch 12 the auto-rotation was off after the W10 install, but it was because Microsoft decided having it off should be the standard. If I swipe in from the right, in the bottom section, there is a "rotation lock" icon. Turn the lock off and it auto rotates again. Smiley Happy

Thanks, LeonGZA! The app works like a charm. However, I have noticed another problem: multi-touch gestures don't seem to be working in Windows 10 (e.g pinch zooming). Are you having the same problem by any chance? I have tried updating the dsiplay driver.. still doesn't work!

Strange, it always did work until some Windows Update got installed a few days ago. It is showing "No Pen or Touch Input is avaialble for this Display" under the System Info.

I will try to figure out what changed.

This is not just a W500/W501 issue. A recent update also did the same to a W511P we have in the office.

EETI also noticed this and they have a fix for their touch displays:

As far as I know the W500/W501 has an EETI display so that fix might work. Will try this once I get home.

Mine (W500) says "Limited Touch Support with 4 Touch Points". I have tried installing the drivers and the update from EETI yesterday, but it didn't work. I am actually not even sure if multi-touch has ever worked since upgrading to Win10.

I managed to get mine to show "Limited Touch Support with 4 Touch Points", but the touch gestures don't work.

The strange thing is that the pinch zoom works fine in Internet Explorer, but not in Edge.

It is really strange.. same here! Another strange problem is that video playback in all browsers (e.g. on youtube) is choppy, but works fine on other apps.. However, both problems seem to be related to Windows 10 itself and not the acer devices or drivers. People have been complaining of similar issues on the Surface tablet!

    Hello,

I've just downloaded the app, started it. But it doesnt work.

My guess is that it's because i had manually installed win10 x64 on the tab and failed to install the g-sensor driver. Do you have any suggestion to work around that?

    Hi polarka,

I haven't tried to install 64-bit Windows 10 on the tablet before. I only know of a 32-bit G-Sensor driver.

Works superbly, I did nothing but install win 8 pro 32bit (clean).  install catalyst mobility 12.10, instlled win 8 g sensor from acer site, installed win 8 32bit atheros bluetooth from here picked win 8 for ar3011 https://www.atheros-drivers.com/atheros-bluetooth-drivers.html.

lastly ran rotation app you made avail in zip and jobs a goodun.  i have wifi connecting at above 54g speeds (with default win 8.1 selected driver), bluetooth installed and is working perfectly, and now I have rotation working perfectly.  I did not have to uninstall or update any amd drivers either
