Dear All,

I have a VN7-592G-747C that came with a 1TB + 8GB SSD Toshiba HDD.

Is it possible to add a second SSD drive to this notebook?

If not, is it possible to replace this HDD with an SSD drive? I have looked around and I saw that problems one could run into is not having the right cable/connection, etc. I have zero experience with SSD drives so an explanation of what type of drives can be installed in this notebook would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

    Hello,

Honestly the Acer shop (authorized repairer) will be the best solution. This model is not really easy to upgrade.

I give you some SSD M.2 2280 models (you'll need no cables):

    You'll also need a small screw to fix/lock it: 86.MQJN1.002 - SCREW.M2xL3

    Hi,

I am coming back to this thread after all these years with a slightly different question.

I still have the original 1TB + 8GB SSD in the notebook and now I happened to receive a Seagate 1TB SATA HDD (1RK173-030).

Is it possible to add this SATA HDD as a secondary HDD? Or I can only add SSD as per the previous posts?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
You can not add this HDD as there is no ODD bay in your laptop and may have to use it as an external drive using an enclosure.

  • Hello,

    I think you made a mistake: VN7-562G-747C???

    1. Could you give me the first ten characters of the computer serial number (S/N)? Only the first ten.
    2. 1TB + 8GB SSD is a Toshiba SSHD.

    Hi Laurent,

My apologies, the correct model number and the first 10 digits of the S/N are as follows:

VN7-592G-747C (corrected the subject and the first post accordingly to avoid confusion)

    NXG6JEM038

And yes, it's an SSHD - it's just me not being familiar with the different terms I guess.

    Thanks.

  • Hello,

You can install one SSD M.2 2280 SATA 3.0 of 256/512Gb in addition of the original SSHD. I'll give you more informations on different models tomorrow.

    Hi,

Sorry about the late reply, been away but did read your message earlier. Thanks for the clarification!

I look forward to hearing about other possible models that you mentioned. If there is any chance you could send me a link explaining how the installation would work and whether any additional cables would need to purchased, I would greatly appreciate that. Based on that I could decide whether it's something I could safely perform at home or if I should get the Acer shop to do it for me.

    Many thanks!

Hello, I just purchased a VN7-592G-71ZL and I am installing an M.2 drive as well.

Can you or someone else who knows, provide a link to a website where the needed screw for the M.2 drive can be purchased? I'm in the US, so would prefer a US retailer.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Kevin82485,

You can buy it here. It is the same screw that fixes/locks the battery pack. Thanks Smiley Wink

What is the largest size of the primary SATA SSHD that I can install in this notebook? It came with a 1 TB (+8GB) SSHD and it's time to upgrade it. Can I replace it with a 2 TB one?

Also, what 2 TB SSHD would you guys recommend, not sure which models considered the best options these days.

    Thanks for any advice!

    Hi,
Yes, you can upgrade to a 2TB SSHD like this:https://www.amazon.co.uk/Seagate-ST2000LX001-FireCuda-Internal-Drive/dp/B01M1UQQT5/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1528650336&sr=1-1&keywords=Seagate+2TB+SSHD

    Thank you, brummyfan2.

I have not yet opened up my notebook. I generally I am very good with computers but never replaced a HDD in my notebook and I have not opened it up yet either.

Is the process of replacing the HDD any difficult or 'risky' ?

    Hi,
You are welcome, no it's not difficult but watch few videos for similar model disassembly and you should be fine.

Thank you so much for sharing this video. I am sorry about the late reply, I never got the notification of your reply and just now happened to check back on this thread.

Thanks again. I assume I won't need any special tools or additional/new screws for taking out the original 1 TB SSHD and putting in the above linked FireCuda which I think should be the exact same connection.

    Hi @Dundy
No problem, just a screw driver suitable for the Philips screws and that's all you need, make sure to ground yourself and avoid touching the motherboard.

Got it, thanks. :+1: I have plenty of different kids of screwdriver sets but just to clarify, the Philips screw means the X-slotted screw, right?

Also, about grounding myself and all... is that necessary even if of course the notebook charger will not be plugged in? If yes, then how do you recommend I ground myself?  :)

    Thanks!

Yes, it's x-slotted screw driver, it's not a must to ground yourself but just a precaution, try touching a metal bar with bare feet should be fine.
