My Acer Aspire ES1 - 512 seems to start up ok but the screen is very dark and I can only make out some of the start screen like Firefox, Norton etc and Window on bottom left of screen but cannot see arrow pointer when moving mouse pad.   Any suggestions please

  • Hello,

    1. Have you tried increasing the brightness with [Fn]+[-->]?
    2. Do you have the same issue with an external monitor?

    Hello

I have as you have suggested press Fn + Right arrow but with no success

I have not tried using a separate monitor, I am unsure how to do this.  Can I use my second Acer Laptop and if so how do I connect the two laptops?  Thanks

  • Hello,

Your laptop has a HDMI connector on the rear side (see attachment).

Do you own a external monitor or a LCD TV with a HDMI connector and a HDMI cable?

    Hello Laurent

I have done what you suggested connected laptop to LCD TV.  Had to borrow HDMI cable from a friend.

It appears clear on the TV screen.   Does this mean that my laptop screen is faulty and may require repair or replacement.   Also I have another problem the mouse pointer is not showing on either the laptop or TV screen

Can you suggest a fix for the lost mouse pointer  Thank you Sandy

    Hello Laurent

I have found a fix for the mousepointer by pressingFn + F7

  • Yes [Fn]+[F7] turns the touchpad on or off.

Does this mean that my laptop screen is faulty and may require repair or replacement?

We will try other thing before that.

    1. You only need your laptop (no HDMI connection with the TV)
    2. Shut down your laptop
    3. Wait few minutes
    4. Follow this procedure

    Note:

See the attachment for the position of the pinhole.

I have tried the procedure you suggested with the paper clip inserted in the small hole on the bottom of the laptop to disconnnect internal battery and then connected the adaptor and switched on but unfortunately with no success as screen is still dark and hardly readable.   Do you think I will have to send to Acer for repair?

    Hello,

Do you think I will have to send to Acer for repair?

The backlight (Led) of your screen is defective. Is your laptop still under warranty?

    Otherwise you have two possibilities:

    1. Acer repair center
    2. If you know somebody who has computing knowledges, he/she will be able to repair it with a compatible LCD panel (screen).
