Hi,

I've purchased a High Quality USB Microphone for use on my laptop as it does not have a specific Microphone input that I can use together with headphones.

However when i try to use it in several different programs including Virtula DJ 8 and Audacity I just can't hear my self or when recording I cannot hear my voice.

Even though my audio micro settings are set at 90 % both in Win 10 as in my above mentioned programs.

The mic is brand new, a Samson C01U-Pro.

Does any body know what I'm doing wrong or has expierence with the Samson Mic ?

The supplier suggested that I should tweak the ACER mic audio settings ... are these different to that of the soundcard ?

Please help if you can, thanks,

Jason

have you checked on Recording devices if the USB microphone is set as default device?

right click the speaker icon near clock and date.

    choose recording devices

right click the USB mic and set as default

    Thanks for your response IronFly.

Yep tried that ... the level for my mic stands at at least 90% and as default device.

Just don't understand the problem ... when i watch YouTube with this mic as subject I only see really good reviews. And the sound tests are just great. I have to almost eat the mic to record anty sound at all.

Funny Thing is that Mic has a small green Led indicator that turns red when clipping occurs. This seems to work ok.

    Strange very strange.

ok, starting from the Recording devices window, click on Properties (USB micorphone), click on Custom tab, is Microphone boost ticked?

if not, tick it and press Apply, OK.

Thanks again, I'll check that out and get back to uopu if that's ok.

I live in Begiumn and have the Dutch version of Win 10 etc .... so I'll first have to do a bit of translation to get into the correct screens and such ... bare with me plse.

    1. Right click the speaker icon, choose recording devices (the order is the same on other languages)
    2. click on microphone and then click on Properties
    3. click on the third tab (Custom in english) and check if Microphone boost is enabled

Your are to kind IronFly ... !! Thank you.

However step 1 and 2 no problems.... step 3 ... I only have 4 Tabs in this screen , I don't have an equivelant to 'Custom'.  Levels however I do, and this slider has been set to 80 (% ?), and 90 on different occasions. It's makes a slight difference but not enough to actuallay register my voice when trying to record.. I.e. mixing with MP3's using the free version of Virtual DJ 8. 7

I've contacted Virtual DJ as well yesterday , but as yet had no reply but I'mù sure they will.

I wonder would it have something tp do with bit rates ??? I've notice that mic provides a 16bit signal, and sound on Virtual DJ is 32bits.

Oh by the way my OS s Win 10.

nope, bitrate doesn't change volume but only recording quality.

i can't find any refernce about a MIC boost on your model, so...i think you must wait a reply from Samson.
