how do i get my Aspire R7 out of sleep mode?
hi. Doober here. I'm new to the group. I have noticed that every time i leave my Aspire R7 for more than 15 minutes of so, it goes into this sleep-type mode where the power is still on, but the screen is black and there seems to be nothing i can do to bring the screen back up without doing a hard power down. Any suggestions??

Tapping the power button once won't wake it up?
Go to More Change Advanced Power Settings/Power Options/Change Plan Settings/Sleep and set Hybrid Sleep to off and Hibernate to never.Put it to sleep and try waking it.

It's most likely due to the compatibility issue with Windows 10 11.xx Intel Management Engine Interface driver if you have Haswell 4xxxU cpu.
You have to use the Windows 8.1 Intel Management Engine interface driver.
If you don't have Haswell Intel 4xxxU CPU, then disregard.

Your advanced power plan settings may be set to hibernate after a period of time.
Once the laptop is hibernating, you have to press the power button briefly to wake it up. It looks like it is booting (Acer logo) but it is just waking from hibernation, which is deeper than sleep.
If you do not want it to hibernate, go to Power options > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings > Sleep > Hibernate after, setting

Also you can open a command prompt as admin and enter powercfg.exe /hibernate off . This will turn hibernation off and reclaim the hiberfil space (several GB) on C:
What Hibernate does is to take a snapshot of the memory & saves to the hiberfil. Then when it starts again, the memory is restored from the hard disk. With a 1GB memory it is pretty quick, 2 GB OK, 4GB slow, and 8GB fahgedaboudit.

The OP said "the power is still on".....which leads me to believe it's the incompatible Windows 10 ver. 11.xx intel management engine driver. The only way out of it is a forced shutdown by pressing and holding the power button.
There's thousands of posts about it on the internet. I've tried every fix in the book. The only workaround that I'm aware of is to use the Windows 8.1 Intel management engine interface driver.
Acer has acknowledged the issue with some mobile Haswell CPU's but they haven't really done anything more as far as customer awareness or knowledge base. HP has posted it in their knowledge base. To the best of knowledge, Microsoft released a BIOS update to resolve the issue on their Surface Pro 3 w/intel haswells.
I'm not going to post every single thread in this Acer forum, but I stumble upon a new one like this October one every now and then.
It's a known Windows 10 issue w/ mobile haswells. It can occur with sleep, restart, and shutdown. It can also cause a memory leak.

I don't know why Acer support hasn't put it in their knowledge base like HP has. Only Acer knows the answer to that.
But hopefully he tries your suggestion and it fixes it......but again, since he says "the power is still on", I don't think his computer is in sleep or hibernation. I think it's hung......which is a common symptom of the Windows 10 Intel MEI incompatiblity bug.
Edit: After looking in to it further, the Microsoft surface pro 2 and 3 sleep issue was completely unrelated to this issue..

Agree a possibility. Maybe Acer should list those machines that have Hazwells. I don't think I have one (the R14 here has a Skylake, Sw12 is a Broadwell, and my R3 has a Braswell)
