Acer Aspire TC Desktop PC no legacy BIOS option

6 month old  Aspire TC desktop PC.  Mother hates Win8.1.....installed Win10.  She hates that.  She is 76 years old and doesn't like change. Wants to install Win7 and willing to pay the $120 for it.

Trouble is this PC will NOT boot to a CD.  After reading these and other forums I tried to change to the Legacy BIOS. Problem....there is NO option in this BIOS to switch to a legacy BIOS!

Now what?????

Ok....all is well.  Inside the Intel Driver Installer app there is a Win7 folder....I had to use the Setup.exe in there.

I could not run Setup from the main app itself.  Error code every time.

So all the drivers are now in but I did have to go onto the Intel driver pages and download the driver scanner/update

app.  It found the video drivers and installed them.

Many thanks for the help getting the legacy BIOS up and running!!!

    TC model?

probably you need to create a supervisor password on BIOS, once entered as supervisor, you will be able to disable secure boot and switch UEFI to Launch CSM (this is legacy on Acer desktop)

As to the model I am not at my mother's right now but I will write it down when I am there next.

But THANKS for the info.....I wondered if the secure BIOS was the "problem".

Now, while I have your attention...once I get the model number will there be Windows7 drivers for this PC?

    Thanks again

i think you will be able to find windows 7 drivers, mostly are Intel so you can download this tool and download the suggested drivers:

    https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/24345/Intel-Driver-Update-Utility

then do all the windows updates and check under device manager if any exclamation mark is present.

Open Device Manager by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Security, and then, under System, clicking Device Manager.
If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Where you see the Yellow exclamation mark, double click it, choose "Details" tab, from the dropdown menu choose "HardwareIDs", click the first string and copy/paste it here.

Ouch....backed into a corner now.  Got the legacy BIOS done and Windows 7 installed but not network drivers and the Intel Driver Installer comes up with an error and will not load.

I "think" it may be the fact it needs NetFramework 4.5 and this Win7 SP1 may not have it???

    HELP!!!

    Hi

Ok, I found some Intel genetic LAN drivers on the Acer support site.  It said they were for Win8 but I noticed a folder inside that said Win7.  Sure enough they installed and I now have Net access.

But....the PC is using standard video drivers.  I will get you the strings but may not get back to the house

for a day or 2....she can live with it now for her e:mail, Web and magicjack. :-)

Thanks for the help and I'll Be Back. :-)

Yes, your hint as to how to get to the legacy BIOS was the key!

As I explained in the above e:mail the Win7 Intel drivers need to be started in the Win7 folder.

But....for some strange reason the video drivers were not included or maybe not found by the Intel app.  For those I had to uses the Intel driver scanner app from thier support web site.  That found the video drivers and installed them.

So we now have an Aspire ATC-603 running Windows7.

    Thanks

Oh wow! Thanks so far, for this time when I put the system restore disk in (which acer CHARGED ME for!!!), a windows emblem appeared in the middle of the screen. About to see how the rest goes. I'll keep you updated!

    Thank You much - TLR

I got the recovery disc loaded and now when I get to the stage where it previously said "needs to be in legacy BIOS mode" (which I switched to), is says that I need to be in UEFI ?!? Now that I have tried both, I don't know what to do. I refuse to pay for their fee based phone tech support. If it helps, I have windows 8, which I absoulutely have no access to at all.Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks - TLR

Are you sure you can't just Ignore it and continue?

No, the screen stays blank in the same blue background, then goes back to the acer splash/startup screen. I did just read that the HDD needs to be completely wiped, but you need to download/create a partition disk from a website. I'm assuming that I need to connect my hard drive to another computer to do this?

You can look for a copy of Hiren's Boot Disk.

I told the lady who's PC I had the BIOS trouble not to call me if she had any other troubles. :-)

    Hiren's Boot Disk?

Ok, I googled it. Let's see how it goes. I have a lot of info I'd like to recover on this hard drive. Do you think it'd be wise to just buy a new HDD and keep trying to recover what I can from the old one???   Thanks again!!!

As long as your Recovery copy of WinDoZe isn't linked to that old drive ie make, model, capcity, etc.
