Predator G6-710

My Predator is a week old and the fan on my G6-710 is extremely loud. It also seem to be getting really hot.

The Celicius is 54 degrees so I keep the fan on high to try and lower the temperature. I also downloaded  Speccy

CPU temperature monitoring and it is just a little lower at 51 celicius. I called Bestbuy to get some advice and they said if I wanted to game I should of went with watercooling. Any advice would be very much appreciated.

I have the same problem. Some questions to figure out if we are in the same boat.

Which G6-710 composition do you have? 970/980Ti or Titan X?

What are your base fan speeds normal fan speed(using predator sense software to see) for both GPU and CPU?

54°C is not an high temperature if you are talking about CPU and it's completly safe.

you don't have to watercool your system, at least if you don't need a noiseless PC, but you can buy a good CPU heatsink and Fan.

there are plenty of this on the web, Zalman, Noctua or Cooler master are good.

Talking about GPU, temperature can reach 80-90°C without killing your card, fans will be highly audible by the way.

I don't know how many fans has your G6, but 2 for sure are needed, bottom front and top rear; those can help airflow and keep all components cooler.

    I'm not an Acer employee.

A nickles worth of free advice, never talk to the "geek squad", those people are NOT tech's at all.  Most of the time they "look" at peoples PC's and say "hey, you need to buy something new from us as we "cant" fix your problem"..  They are always trying to sell you something.

You do NOT need watercooling to game on a PC.  I have gone the better part of 20 years building my own PC's and have never used water cooling except on my last PC just to try it.  The cooler Acer uses in these systems are pretty good actually so I doubt you would need to replace it unless you are having serious issues with it.

When you are cranking everything up, the loud fan noise you are hearing is probably the video cards fans as they can get really loud.  Also, you can look up online to see the safe operating temps for your CPU/Video Cards online, though it will vary depending who you ask.

PC temps can get pretty hot, much hotter than you think and still be totally safe to use because they are designed to handle the heat (but of course, there is a threashold you don't want to pass).  The #'s you have listed seem to be pretty good so I wouldn't worry too much.

Most of the GTX 980ti cards can hit upwards of 80 d/celcius which is really hot.  Also, I don't know where you live but if you are keeping the rooms temp pretty high (due to winter possibly) that can help your temps in the PC rise a bit as well.  Obviously you are probably limited to where you can keep the PC, but a cooler room / basement can help a lot.  I just wanted to mention that as it is a factor.

I have the the GTX 970 in my Predator G6-710.  My normal  base fan speed (using predator sense software)

is 5292 rpm for the CPU and 2434 rpm for the system. This is my first gaming PC and  I don't quite understand

the predator sense software, sometimes it won't go on faster. It stays on normal and I keep clicking on faster and

after 10 clicks it goes on. And like I said before, when I put my fan on high to bring the temperature down, it sounds like King Kongs blow dryer, and I'm not kidding. There is no way I can handle how loud that is. I have only 3 days left to return it but i don't know what else I can get for $1600.00 without the monitor. I want a quality computer, but Digital Storm, Orgin or Maingear are quality and use the best parts but cost a minimum of 3 grand.

    I do want a good graphic's card like the GTX-970 or 980 and a 1 or 2 TB hdd with a 240GB ssd for the C drive.

With a I7 processor with 16 gigs of ram or more and a quality mid to full size case.

But how do I know the next computer is not going to be so loud? To bad I can't see it before I buy it!

Has anybody heard of a computer maker called https://www.xidax.com/  they say they give a lifetime warranty which is hard to believe but their prices aren't bad.  I called yesterday and was put on hold for like 10 minutes so I hung up.  Any advice would be great.

You don't have to run it overclocked all of the time, you don't really need it to run that fast all of the time.  I play most of my games on max settings on standard and it plays them just fine.  Air cooling can get pretty loud when you are going full bore for hours on end.  Having said that, after playing a few games for an hour or so I almost never hear my Predator kick up fan speeds much.

The loud noise is your video cards cooler, those guys get wicked loud sometimes.  Where do you have your PC located?  On top of the desk, under?  In a really hot room?  It does seem like its getting really toasty for some reason and I'm not sure if it's the PC or where you possibly have it located.  Again, warmer rooms in the house can and do play a part because if the PC is sucking in warm air to "cool" the rest of the PC... you will have high temps.

I'd say pop the side off and watch the fans while it's running to make sure the other fans are working ok (though they must be if you are getting a reading in the software).

As for the other brands, yah, you won't find all of this for that cheap sadly.  I usually build my own stuff but after seeing the Predator for what it has for the price I couldn't help but jump on it.  Everytime I build from scratch I end up going overboard and spending way to much lol.  I'm pretty happy with it so far, plus I just got the 2k Predator 27" Monitor to go with it.  I wanted the curved screen but I can't spend that much right now.

Just leave the system on normal and play some games and see how it runs heat wise then get back and let us know.  I have played with mine on max but it didn't seem to get loud like yours at all.  Also, use the Acer app to update to the latest Predator Sense software, maybe that will help you a bit.  I haven't used that program to much as like I said, I haven't felt the need to OC it much yet.

Normal you say? Are you sure thats not the boosted fan speed? When I click on Faster in Predator sense I achieve exactly the speed you described as normal.(5k RPM CPU, 2,5k RPM System) What is your faster fan speed readings then?

This is quite unusual that there are such huge discrepencies between different devices of the same model. The Predator standard fitted with 970 that I owned not so long ago had base fan speed(on normal) of 1400 RPM both CPU and System. Yet the one I have now has different fan speed of CPU=1400 RPM and System= 969 RPM on normal, and if your readings are correct yours has the faster on normal.

No wonder your PC is so loud because normal should actually be faster! Tsk! Acer, acer, acer....

Regarding Higher Speed settings, you dont have to do that normally, to my understanding, the BIOS will automatically increase fan speed incrementally relative to CPU + System Temperature, so that it doesnt have to run fans at the maximum speed

I just got done playing Rise of the Tomb Raider @ 2k max on "Faster" and my CPU temp is 40c and the System is 25c.  CPU fan is 1440rpm and the System fan is 960rpm (all on Standard).  I rarely have it on the turbo setting so I can't really speak for that.

I normally just have it on Normal, but when I'm doing a bunch I kick it up to Faster just because I can Smiley Happy  My system has remained pretty quiet while playing for an hour or so.  Only once did i hear the video card fans kick up (on the 970, but I'm replacing it soon.  The Titan X card I had got sent back so I'm now waiting on a 980ti).

I'm not sure why the OP's system is running so hot, but I just have a feeling it might be where it's located or something being part of the issue possibly.  My Xbox One / PS4 upstairs in the summer time get very hot until I kick the air on.  I keep most of my stuff in my soon to be finished basement and it's always nice and cool down there.

Hopefully we can figure out what's going on here.

    Hey guys,

    How are you?

Yesterday I bought my son a game from Steem called The witcher 3. He didn't get to play it until this morning about 9 am. mickpeck40 asked about the room and the desk it was on. The room is quite cool which is the way my son likes it even in mid winter, the desk has a glass top and the back of the computer is 11 inches from the back of the wall.

Anyway I went in to check on him around noon and I couldn't believe how hot this computer was. The first thing I did was put my hand in back of the computer and all the wires were hot, especially the hdmi wire. It was hot for about 11 inches down the wire. All the metal backplates were very hot. So I checked the predator sense and the cpu temperature was 82 degrees celsius. My son said the game is set on max setting and the predator sense is on normal.

Now I need to tell you I haven't been gaming much for the last year since I been going through Chemotherapy which sometimes I can't think straight, but all I can tell you is the Predator Sense has normal, faster, and turbo.

Now if you play on normal in about 40 minutes the CPU temperature goes to 82 C.

I have to switch the fan speed on high even when my son is playing  in normal mode, and he's not to happy with the extreme loudness.

When it was delivered there was a little plastic bag in the box that had 4 screws and what looked to be a hdmi to dvi connector. I looked on amazon and it looked like a HDE PCI Express 6 Pin to 2 x 4 Pin Molex

But I am not sure. I know the small end has 6 holes but 5 pins. I'll try to send a link of a picture of it.

    http://www.amazon.com/HDE-PCI-Express-Pin-Molex/dp/B002CZANA8/ref=sr_1_30?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1454889476&sr=1-30&keywords=molex+to+4+pin

There is no way I can use a computer that gets this hot and loud. Please help me.

    Thank You.

Hey thanks for getting back.  Sorry to hear about the chemotherapy, I can imagine that's not an easy thing to deal with and I'm sorry that you have to.  Hope you are doing well.

I'm glad it's in a cooler room which will help but it does seem like something is causing the PC get really hot really fast.  I play all of my games on max settings as well, and while I expect the temps to go up (nature of the beast sort of thing) mine never gets that hot.  Even after playing for a few hours I can still barely hear the PC's fans which has me wondering what the issue(s) could be with your son's PC.

That adapter you have is tossed in there in case you need it for a newer video card vs. what's in the case already (coming off of the power supply). So hang onto that but it's nothing needed until an upgrade occures at some point (possibly).  I'll take a look at my PC when I get home and finish commenting here with any suggestions as it's easier for me to open it and look at it to try and find out what (if any) differences there are and what could be causing the PC to be getting as hot as it is.

Please check back, I'll edit this with the rest of my comment below when I get home a little later today.  Thanks again for commenting back, lets see what we can figure out.

Thanks Nickpeck40 for helping me out with that adapter wire. I thought it was to be used for something.

Secondly, on the Predator Sense there is normal, faster and turbo which I told my son to keep it on normal for now.

Also there is the fan speed. If we put the speed on low it starts overheating within 40 minutes.

If we put the fan speed on high it lowers the temperature pretty fast but " honest " it sounds louder than a blow dryer.

Is there something I am missing? Is there something I didn't do?

I know I am getting to the last days for a return from Newegg, I didn't know they were closed for the weekend.

I tried to chat with a tech yesterday and he told me to read him the voltage number on the back of the computer.

After what seemed forever I told him I can't find no voltage number. Then he said bring the computer over your neigbors house and plug it in there. That did nothing.

How are you able to keep your fan on low? or even if it's on high why is yours not extremely loud?

Are there a different set of fans I don't see? In my newbe opinion it feels like the heat is coming off the video card.

Well, If you get any idea's my friend, please let me know because I always tend to lose money when I buy a computer. Thanks.

No problems at all.  Again, gaming PC's (most in general) will get pretty toasty.  When you are playing a game at max settings for awhile any video card cooler will get pretty loud unless you have a water cooled card.  Your system will crank up the cooling as the temps start to climb, the option where you can turn them up is kind of a "forced" to go faster option.

I'll attach a picture I just took after playing Dying Light maxed out at 2k resolution, after awhile I can hear my fans kicking up like normal.   You see mine can get up there as well.  The gpu was close to 79c for a bit but then the cards coolers kick in a bit more and it sits around 74c while playing.  Pretty much the heat is normal and the parts can take it for awhile.  If you can pop the side off just make sure the video card fan seems to be spinning pretty good, though I guess you can check the card blower in the back and you can feel how much hot air is blowing out.

I stil have some tweaking to do for mine.  But ya, any graphically intense game will really put your PC through it's paces which introduces a lot of heat, you can't really do too much about it other than maybe adding a fan up front to help the airflow a bit but I haven't had any issues without one.  In short, this is pretty normal.

    Hi Nickpeck,

Sorry for bothering you so much.

I have to send my computer back and I was wondering if you could think of another one that has the same specs but don't overheat. I know that's hard to do without seeing it, but all I want is a Intel I7, "Im not sure if a skylake is any better or not" and  a 1 or 2 TB HDD and a 240 SSD with a good power supply and a dvd drive, 8 0r 16 GB of ram and with a nice case.

Why is it when you try and buy a prebuilt one they give you these cheep cpu fans and power supply's.

I am willing to spend $1800.00. It seems to me that if you build it you can get good quality parts. My brother and I want to try but we're to scared and I'm not in the greatest health.

One other thing, every computer I find for my price wants to give a gtx 950 0r 960 graphic card which I don't think

can handle these games my son likes to play.

Is there any web site that helps newbies build. I mean nice and easy, even if I have to pay I would if they go step by step.

    Thanks

Honestly, that PC isn't overheating unless it's shutting off to cool down.  ANY air cooled gaming centric PC you buy or build will get crazy hot while playing.  There is no way around it sadly.  You can get a watercooled PC but being a "noob" I would buy one pre built, but even then you have to manage the coolent / water from time to time.  Plus if you spring a leak, good luck Smiley Very Happy   Though most closed loop products are pretty solid and I have used a few CPU coolers in the past that worked fine, but unless you plan to crazy overclock it they really aren't needed.

If you want better than a GTX 970 you are going to start hitting into the $500-1000 range just for the video card.  A solid 980ti will ping you around $650 just for the video card.  Your best bet is to just goto a website and build a PC with what you want and see what it will cost you.  The Predator pre builts are in a good price range for what you get (basically what you had).

Sure you can build your own as it's not really hard but to find a step by step you can just google that, I don't know anywhere specific that will do that personally.  But there is a lot that can go into it and it will probably take you awhile, but it's fun and worth it (just be careful though).

But again, the PC you had wasn't doing anything wrong unless it was so hot it would shut off.  A PC getting hot running a good game at max settings will always get loud and toasty, just the nature of the beast.

You were right about everything about me building one . Plus my son loves this one.

This is why I have always been so confused about the Prederator sense. I had no manual, not one paper showing anything about this computer, and the box was smashed. No ac adapter.

I should of asked you this question from the start!  My son and I always thought that when the CPU temperature got above 90 celicius that it was our job to go to Predator sense and click from standard fan speed to full speed to bring down the temperature which is what made it is so loud.

On tuesday you said  "Your system will crank up the cooling as the temps start to climb, the option where you can turn them up is kind of a "forced" to go faster option."

That forced optioned you mentioned,  is that the high fan speed on the predator sense?"

The only fan that sounds like it's running is the power supply.

    thanks for your advice.
