Hello,
I am new in this forum, I would like your help for upgrading my laptop. Firstly, my laptop was shuting down by overheating. After I clean it from the dust, again the same problem. Then, I changed the thermal paste, but problem continue. I decide to change the processor. Well, my current cpu is i5-480M with Socket G1/rPGA988A and motherboard is intel hm55 (ibexpeak-m dh). I found processors with Socket G1/rPGA988A, the list below: http://www.cpu-world.com/Sockets/Socket%20G1%20(rPGA988A).html
Can I upgrade to Intel i7-820QM?
I would be gratefull if someone help me.
Thank you

I7-820QM is not listed in the official specifications of your latop.
The HM55 Express chipset supports this processor of 45W. The TDP of I5-480M is 35W.
Your thermal module is only mounted with processors of 35W.
Honestly there is too many unknow compared to the CPU price: Acer bios, TDP.
I wouldn't take that risk. Sorry!
